Crowd stampedes have killed a lot of people before in the UK (often due to poorly designed facilities) so it’s possible. We certainly do need to wait and see what comes out over time.

Some of it was at soccer games.

Fortunately that dynamic probably didn’t factor in here.

Crowd stampedes are very dangerous.

You have to keep and eye on things, and if you get the slightest hint of one, move perpendicular to the traffic and try to get even a few feet away.

Five, ten, perhaps fifteen feet from the big throng, it was probably calm and safe.

I think you can help out by proper design for better flow, but when people panic and shoving ensues, all bets are off.
