Rattled UK PM May forced into 'dementia tax' U-turn after poll lead halves

British Prime Minister Theresa May was forced to publicly backtrack on one of her most striking election pledges on Monday after plans to force elderly people to pay more for their social care halved her party's opinion poll lead in just a few days.

In what amounts to her biggest misstep of the campaign to date, May set out plans on Thursday to make some elderly people pay a greater share of their care costs, before hastily announcing on Monday there would actually be a limit. Questioned at an election event, she grew increasingly irritated at suggestions she was backing down.

Six opinion polls published in the past three days have all shown a contraction in the Conservative Party's lead over the opposition Labour Party by a range of 2 to 9 percentage points, though all indicate May will still win the election.

Theresa May is NO Margaret Thatcher. That great woman is sorely missed.

Eh. They’ll forget by tomorrow.

Btw, this is why we are all doomed. Benefits, once given, can’t be taken away. The Welfare State cannot be killed. It has to die through an ugly collapse.

The plan was to put a lien against the high-priced houses these elderly people own without actually taking any action until they die. Upon death, the government’s percentage of the house goes to the government to pay for their care, lessening the amount that goes to the heirs. This would naturally force the sale of the property.

The heirs would prefer that the government pay for the entire cost of care, and then they still get the whole house outright.

These houses are typically worth from 500,000 to 2,000,000 UK pounds.

Sure it can.

In order to receive their benefits, the parasites are required to replace the deported wetbacks, and pick produce.

(or get a real job)

So much for taking advantage of popularity with a quick voting cycle.

The welfare state is tremendously overextended and could not be sustained, even if the white race wasn’t dying.

Good old “social care” coming to America. Americans don’t dare call it socialized medicine and think Obamacare is “healthcare”. No wonder there is the desire by the leftists for single payer in the US. Controlling health in every facet is controlling the citizen. Mortgaging ones property to pay government is obscene. Great Britain’s health system is Socialism with a happy face and soothing reassurance that government is really there for its citizens.

This care is not medicine, but the involves paying for the cost of helpers for daily living.

We have this right now in the US. Medicare will pay for your medical care, but not for assistance in daily living, unless you spend down all your assets. Of course, if you have a lot of assets, you can still just pay for what you need yourself.
