The Russian narrative never made sense. IF they had the emails and IF she had won, some of the email “stars” would likely have been appointed to positions in the Clinton administration. They would have been subject to blackmail.

Why waste them on an election that just about everyone was certain that would end in a Clinton win?

Exactly. Any Russian "interference" in the 2016 election wasn't aimed at helping Trump win. The Russians expected Clinton to win just like everyone else did. Their "interference" was aimed at making sure she was weakened and exposed to endless investigations from the moment she took office.
