The whole state can leave the Union peacefully with no strings attached - no complications. AMF. How can I help?
What happens to people in California who don’t want to secede?
Suppose there’s a vote, and suppose the vote is 60-40% in favor of secession. What happens to the 40%; do they retain their American citizenship even if living in the independent nation of California? Would they be compelled to move to another state to retain citizenship?
What about social security benefits earned; federal taxes paid by Californians??
What about California’s share of the $20 trillion national debt? Does California have to absorb that and pay it off?? Or can they just walk away from it?
What about all the military bases in California? They are American bases; will California have its own army and navy?
First, break the state into to parts, or arrange a realignment of borders with Nevada - give California Las Vegas, and take most of the northern portion to Nevada, with its access to the sea, or make California at least two separate states, one inland, the remainder the coastal counties (but what about San Diego?).
The coastal county strip could then secede from the remainder of the US, the inland state could continue to be the breadbasket for the rest of America, and the famed “bullet train to nowhere” could be used for a widening of I-5 up through the San Joaquin valley.
