Donald Trump Talked Michael Flynn Into White House Job—and Wants Him Back in the Administration

President Donald Trump pressured a “reluctant” Michael Flynn into accepting a job as the White House’s top national security official even after Flynn warned the president that he was under investigation over undisclosed lobbying on behalf of a foreign government, The Daily Beast has learned.

The president's continued loyalty to his ousted former aide is so strong, in fact, that the two have remained in touch despite the potential that their communication could be portrayed as White House interference in a federal investigation. “He did not want to be National Security Adviser,” Michael Ledeen, a friend of the retired Army general, told The Daily Beast on Thursday." “He didn’t want to be in the government. He wanted to go back to private life.”

Now both men could pay a huge price for it.

“He did not want to be national security adviser,” Michael Ledeen, a friend of the retired Army general, told The Daily Beast on Thursday. “He didn’t want to be in the government. He wanted to go back to private life.”

“But Trump insisted on it,” said historian Ledeen, co-author of Flynn’s 2016 book The Field of Fight, their manifesto for defeating Islamic militancy. “He likes him, he trusted him, he was comfortable with him,” he said.

Flynn was “reluctant but honored” when offered the post, according to a senior Trump administration official, and only accepted it at the president’s urging.

A third source with direct knowledge of Trump transition team discussions confirmed that Flynn did not want the national security adviser post, though he claimed Flynn was instead hoping for a position in the intelligence community, preferably director of national intelligence or the director of the Central Intelligence Agency.

Trump’s pressuring of Flynn to take the job came even though Flynn had informed the Trump transition team that he was under active FBI investigation over undisclosed lobbying on behalf of a Dutch company—lobbying that, Flynn now admits, may have advanced the interests of the Turkish government.

This is CYA to cover Flynn’s crazy freelancing for Islamist Turkey, etc. Flynn didn’t expect Trump to win and then had a big problem when he did.

Wait.. Isnt the Turkish government a NATO partner and US ally?
Helping us against ( or with) ISIS
Holding the southetn flank against Russia
Helping them is bad?

I sure hope this loyalty thing is true
General,Flynn is being lynched ( yes I said it) by the democrats, neocon RINO and rogue traitors ( aka deep, state) and the lap dog media
Unlike Scooter Libby id like to see them defeated this time

Nobody forced Flynn to take truckloads of cash from Islamist Turkey. And that is far from the only questionable thing he has done. He made his own bed and now he has to lay in it.

I believe that Trump might have been overly loyal to Flynn. Trump’s famously loyal to those loyal to him, and there was a pretty significant period of time during the campaign when NOBODY else with high-level experience in national security would touch him with a ten-foot pole. But it seems to have been misplaced loyalty, because Flynn seems to have have had his own separate agenda going on.

RE: Nobody forced Flynn to take truckloads of cash from Islamist Turkey.

OK, there is something ethically questionable about what he did, BUT WAS IT ILLEGAL?

And the more important question to answer is this — Did he promise anything for Turkey in return?

If the answer to the two questions are both ‘No’, then the investigations ought to stop right there and then.

But the intent i not really to find out about the truth but to let this drag on to the next election cycle so that Democrats can use this as a talking point in their campaign.

Special counsels tend to have a life of their own, expanding beyond their original mandate. Why for instance, did Fitzpatrick “get” Scooter Libby when he already knew from the outset that it was Richard Armitage who “leaked” ( note the quotes ) the so-called “secret role” of Valerie Plame?

Slightly off topic but related, I heard a mention that Corey Lewandowski might be back. Now _there_ is a loyal person!

I have suspected for some time that Flynn didn't lie to the VP to deceive him, but to shield him from political trouble -- i.e., so that VP Pence could stand up in all honesty and say that he knew nothing about any dealings between Flynn and Russia.

Just a thought there ...

I’d rather have Turkey giving $$$ to Flynn than Al Bagdadi or Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

All he had to do to make it “legal” was declare it on some form asking about his employment and income

For me, we have never seen exactly what question was posed on the form or why

If Gen Flynn got a speaking fee from a Russian public TV network (RT) as do hundred of analysts and commentators on the panels on their shows and conferences they host, then it was NOT income from a “foreign government”

If he got a fee from a “friends of Turkey” group then it was NOT income from a foreign government
l
And BTW one of Hillary's biggest fundraisers was from “friends of Pakistan” for which she flew to Texas

and the Saudis openly stated they funded 20% of her campaign

Meanwhile deranged neocon Russophobe democrat Adam Schiff is a tool of Ukrainian arms dealers and gets campaign money from “friends of Ukraine” groups- and he damn well votes on gov’t policy and steers funds to them- unlike General Flynn

And Hillary's top campaign advisor Podesta the molesta and his brother raked in over a million in 3 years - directly form the govt of Russia! - to lobby against obamas sanctions! Which this whole goat rope is trying to say Trump was being coerced to do ... do these people even listen to themselves

unbelievable

Trump was complaining within days after Flynn was fired that he didn’t believe he should’ve been fired. I was wondering then, then why did you fire him, Donald?
