Shattuck: President needs to hire, not fire, to fix PR mess
The Boston Herald ^ | 05-14-2017 | Tom Shattuck

The Trump administration does not need a shake-up, it needs a build-up.

Spicer stays. The press secretary should earn combat pay for his service so far, fighting off media assassins far more interested in deposing a president than reporting the news.

Likewise, Kellyanne Conway continually advocates better than anyone else for President Trump, climbing into a pit of vipers on cable news and composing herself brilliantly. “Journalists” like Chris Cuomo, Jake Tapper and Anderson Cooper can roll their eyes and demean her all they want, she gets the best of them every time.

As important, the president must learn to be at peace with the new normal. The maelstrom in the media will not end. They will never give him a break and instances of fair reporting will be rare. They are in the midst of staging a soft coup.

Batten down the hatches, Mr. President. Plan, coordinate and execute every single day and the American people will get the message.

But hire more messengers now.

Trump is acting as his own Communications Director, which is, I believe, a mistake.

Folks, it would not matter if he had a hundred Spicers or Conways, because the MSM would simply not engage them or would continue to engage them and continue their spin on the fantasies in their heads to twist the truth.

Donald is living with the circumstance and taking advantage of the mess the MSM is causing, because as we see, his poll numbers really aren't hurt any which way thing are spun, for long.

The MSM is looking crazy to just about everyone.

Either that or cancel press conferences. Allow reporters to submit questions and then pick the ones you want to highlight and leave the rest with no news to report. Do it daily.

POTUS Trump needs a COS with “balls of steel”, can play hardball and kick the media in the “balls” when needed.(No sexist intent just metaphor). Just like it is not wise to be one’s own lawyer, I think President Trump needs to let others carry message and channel them. One President just can’t do it all and micromanagement is futile. The administration is dead to the media and Progtard sycophants. This will never change.

Trump's daughter Ivanka and son-in-law Jared seem likely to be urging him to take a more conventional tack. Yet, in his address to Liberty University on Saturday last, Trump advised the graduates that success often requires perseverance against withering criticism.

I hope that someone recommends to Trump the example of Margaret Thatcher. Elected in May of 1979 promising deep reforms to address Britain's profound economic distress, Thatcher's conservative policies were quickly enacted but slow to make beneficial effects manifest. With mass unemployment persisting, radical-led unions marching in the streets, Thatcher's approval rating plummeting, and many allies urging that she reverse course, Thatcher went to speak at the annual Conservative Party convention in October of 1980 amid rising expectations that she would do just that.

A defiant Thatcher though delivered one of her defining political speeches and most memorable political lines: "To those waiting with bated breath for that favourite media catchphrase, the 'U-turn', I have only one thing to say: 'You turn if you want to. The lady's not for turning.'" Within a few months, Britain's economy sparked back to life and boomed, employment rose, and Thatcher and the Conservatives were re-elected by solid margins.

Trump needs to both follow his own advice and follow Thatcher's example. He should deliver a speech like Thatcher did, keep his current advisers and staff, and then jam his tax reform program through Congress.

Oh he’s there all right. A GOP Establishment mole hiding in plain sight. Trump included him as a sop to the RINOs but it was bound to backfire as Priebus’ loyalties lay elsewhere.
