Officers fatally shot an armed jail inmate who took two nurses hostage at a hospital in northern Illinois on Saturday, several hours after the inmate stole a gun from the correction's officer guarding him, authorities said.
A SWAT team quickly moved in to Northwestern Medicine Delnor Hospital in Geneva after negotiations broke down with the inmate Saturday afternoon, Kane County Sheriff's Off6ice spokesman Patrick Gengler said. Gengler said one officer shot and killed the inmate, whom he identified as 21-year-old Tywon Salters.

I would not want to be the Police Officer. Some prisoners always look for some way to get away, so maybe storing a gun is not a bad idea at a place like a hospital, or a way to make it very difficult to take from the police officer. I guess unless the prisoner is always handcuffed, even at the hospital, there is the chance of this...
Most correction officers are friendly with the inmate, live in the same neighborhoods and know the same friends and family in jail. Not surprised that they let thier guard down

Delnor is about 3 miles from my house. They were saying yesterday that the officer will lose his job and never work security jobs again.

When I did prisoner transports for Doctor/Dentist, the prisoner remained handcuffed at all times. If possible to the gurney or the chair. If the doctor/dentists complained and demanded the prisoner uncuffed, I took the prisoner out and straight back to the prison.
Glad he’s not taking up useful oxygen any longer.

My father was a corrections officer for 26 years, they were never allowed to have a gun. (for that reason)

They will never learn until they realize they are not entitled to everything/anything they see or set they sites on because of their race. I can only imagine what this country would/will be like if/when all “Free Sh!t” were taken from them forever, NO MORE entitlements. Gonna be a big war and they will STILL lose. Slow learners.

You did the right thing. There is a reason for cuffs.
Sounds like he won't work again in Law Enforcement for good reason. That officer is lucky this didn't turn out a whole lot worse.

And unfortunately the word “until” is not part of their vernacular. And it’s sad, because between abortion of their babies and their youth being killed, you have to wonder how they survive. We often make light of these senseless deaths, but it is a national disgrace that we have allowed the Liberals to create a narrative that ends up with acts like this.
They'd always arrive with two guards and would be handcuffed to the stretcher while with us...except for occasions when examination/treatment required otherwise.
I once asked a guard what a particularly nasty looking guy was in for...he said he wan't allowed to tell me.
One of the many things I don't miss now that I'm retired.
A report last night was that the corrections officer lost his Glock 21 pistol.
