Just a fortnight after the revelation that Switzerland conducted a spying mission in Germany in 2012, media in the two countries have reported that the neighboring nations recently signed an agreement to stop all such espionage.
Citing sources close to the Swiss government, Swiss paper Tages Anzeiger and the German Süddeutsche Zeitung said that in January 2017 the two countries concluded a Memorandum of Understanding to forbid each countrys intelligence service from carrying out espionage activities against the other.
From now on, Switzerland will tell the German government if it wishes to conduct an anti-crime operation in Germany, and vice-versa.
Contacted by the papers, neither government would confirm the existence of the agreement.

I’m sure they’re looking at each other very closely to ensure both sides comply.
I guess Germany finally gave up trying to steal the formulas for Swiss Miss Hot Chocolate and Ricola Cough Drops...
Every country spies on every other country. Take my word on it.
Of course, the agreement pertains only to intergovernmental spying - both states are still free to spy on their own and each other's citizens, and to freely share that stolen info with each other (in fact, they are sometimes required by treaty to share that info).

Damn Swiss.
Is that like the old German - Soviet Nonaggression Pact?
The only way to enforce this is to spy on each other.
The Swiss have been infiltrating the Black Forest to steal advanced cuckoo clock technology for centuries...

Actually, this is not what caused this mess. It was Germany offering bribes to Swiss bank employees, to narc on Germans who were hiding money from the German tax department, in Switzerland.
So in turn, Switzerland decided to spy on the German tax authority, to find out which Swiss bank employees were being bribed.
