(Via ABC) U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions and Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein are interviewing candidates to take over the FBI as interim director, after James Comeys firing Tuesday.
Four candidates are being interviewed today, fielded from senior FBI and Justice Department officials and the heads of FBI field offices across the country, according to a Justice Department official.
The four candidates: FBI Executive Assistant Director Paul Abbate, who leads the agencys cyber and criminal branch; National Counterintelligence Executive William Evanina; Special Agent Adam Lee, who runs the Richmond field office; and Special Agent Michael Anderson, who runs the Chicago field office.

I am confused as to why they would appoint an interim director.....why not just appoint a new director?
The FBI chief has a 10 year holding...he serves under the desire of the President.
When the President fires or releases the person, there are x amount of years left, so in this case, until the term that Comey was appointed to do, this person will fill out that time...
Stan Beeman for FBI Director!
If an interim is not appointed, McCabe gets that role. Anybody would be better choice.
Maybe the reason is that it takes time to select and vet the right person for the job. While that process is ongoing, Trump wants McCabe in charge for as short a period as possible. McCabe is a known Trump-hater.
re: appointing an interim director
New director will have to be approved by Senate as I understand it. That may take awhile
He would be Trump’s worst enemy! Or at least one of them.
The interim director does not require Senate confirmation. The “permanent” director does.
This can be useful in a couple different strategies.
If the President picks someone the Senate Democrats don't like, they might be more inclined to encourage a speedy confirmation of the appointment of the "permanent" director (I put "permanent" in quotes because it isn't actually permanent but has a 10-year term).
Or, the President may pick an interim director who the Senate Democrats don't like and then appoint that same person to the "permanent" position of director. If Senate Democrats slow down the confirmation process, the acting director merely continues in place.
The primary reason for appointment of an interim director is to move McCabe out of the role immediately..
Mike Rogers is bad news, as a neo-con. His wife ran a private security team of hired guns, as contractors in Iraq. There was some scandal involved with the never-saw-a-war-I-didn’t-like crowd.
I agree with that assesment. Trump might as well go all in. Hire from outside the FBI. Any Law Enforcement Head will do.
AEGIS-Benghazi
Comey was appointed in Sept. 2013 by Obi. Patience is in order here....
“I agree with that assesment. Trump might as well go all in. Hire from outside the FBI. Any Law Enforcement Head will do.”
I have read recently while a “permanent Director” can be anyone that the Senate will confirm, but that an interim Director has to come from within the government (GS15 or above). So if that is indeed the case, those on the President’s list are fine for both interim and final appointment, but that an outsider cannot be interim.
I vote for Gowdy
Me too! He is owned by no one, and believes the Constitution and law can identify corruption wherever it exists. Win, lose or draw.
Gowdy’s biggest complaint is the misuse of the law, the LACK OF CONSEQUENCES and applying accountability standards for those consequences.
He’s simply... *honest*.
I don’t believe that to be true, it’s not a 10 year term, is an appointment without a fixed term (at the pleasure of the president ) which is, however, Term Limited to ten years.
The term limit is there to avoid corruption and accumulation of power by the FBI director. (Like Hoover did)
