It’s so much safer to put them into checked baggage because the batteries will cause them to burn before the terrorist can detonate them.
Laptop ban due to explosives disguised as the battery. The blast would hopefully be weakened by all the checked baggage in the cargo hold vs. a blast in the passenger cabin.
Pretty much what I was thinking. Better to have a fire start in the cargo hold where it can get a really good start than have it start where people can see it and put it out, not. If I’m not mistaken the Lockerbie bomb was in a radio in the cargo hold.
