An Indonesian court has sentenced the minority Christian governor of Jakarta to two years in prison for blaspheming the Koran at a trial that undermined the country's reputation for practicing a moderate form of Islam.

That "moderate form of Islam" has been trending to Orthodoxy for several decades. Country Moslems once were typical Southeast Asians, nominally members of a major religion but practicing animists. The Sauds/Wahhabis have been sending missionaries to Indonesia for those decades and as the imported imams bring more and more people into line those people press on their neighbors with threats and occasional killings and the spirits retreat into the forest. killing Christians was not something that happened 50 years ago. Now it is not terribly unusual for schoolgirls to be beheaded in on their way home from school.The Muslim violence in Kra Thailand and in NW Burma has been increasing in frequency for all that time, too. Việt Nam protects itself by not allowing Muslims who are not accredited diplomats into the country and its indigenous Muslim/animist population is kept pretty isolated from the Sauds and the derivative Malay imams. Laos is a Vietnamese protectorate and Moslems do not have access. It is also not a country that attracts immigrants.
