SEOUL, May 9 (Yonhap) -- A U.S. naval ship collided with a South Korean fishing vessel in the East Sea on Tuesday during its training mission, defense authorities here said.

"There was an accident involving the U.S. cruiser USS Lake Champlain and the South Korean fishing ship 502 Namyang in the waters south of Ulleung Island at around noon today," a military official said.

But there was no report of any casualties from the accident involving the Ticonderoga-class guided-missile cruiser, he added.

As part of the Carl Vinson Strike Group, the cruiser is participating in joint drills with South Korea's Navy near the peninsula, along with several other ships, including the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier, and Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyers USS Wayne E. Meyer and USS Michael Murphy.

Who was scanning the horizon on deck? You’re fired.

Very expensive toy to crash into a fishing trawler...someone will now spend time on the beach.

A collision at sea can ruin your whole day. Not to mention your career.

The good news is that it wasn't a Nork fishing boat.

Maybe a subtle message to the Norks.

Little boats should stay away from little boats.

Reminds me of the joke about a light house radio to a ship at sea ... "I am a light house ..... You change YOUR course 15 degrees ... I ain't MOVIN' "

OOPS

Little boats should stay away from BIG boats.

Usually I can figure out how and / or why I typo'd but THAT one escapes me.

No more fishing for those guys. Easy Street from here on in; there’ll be big $$ in their future.

We have a 40 foot sailboat and have crossed many shipping lanes. I’ll guarantee you we stay out of their way. Number 1 they can’t see you until it’s too late
Number 2 They have no brakes

with all the devises to protect Navy ships these days, I find this hard to believe - but do believe.

The next time they collide with a fishing boat it might not be a fishing boat, but a boat filled with explosives designed to sink the warship.

Thats the kind of accident you just cut off a finger and say it was “crushed.” You can live well without a finger. Especially when Uncle Sam is paying the rent.

I thought as much.

Besides, ANYthing painted military gray and sporting a bow gun is probably someone that would tell me what they were going to do.

That last line is an old trucker's line (I am retired trucker) ...

When I put on my directional signal, I'm not asking permission, I'm telling you what I'm going to do.
