he Trump administration is weighing a drastic change when it comes to Afghanistan: Whether to send as many 5,000 more troops in the fight, a military official told NBC News.

Trump, however, is still deciding on a variety of options being presented to him by U.S. military leaders, senior administration officials told NBC News.

The Washington Post first reported that the plan could involve an increase of at least 3,000 troops, with the U.S. asking other NATO nations to match. The U.S.'s force in Afghanistan currently totals about 8,400.

Afghanistan is no longer in our vital national interest. A MOAQ - The Mother of All Quagmires.

Get us out president Trump!

No need for troops. Just drop a few more MOABS. No American soldier's life is worth it.

Drop bombs and wipe out their poppy crops.

Which swamp creatures are pushing this plan? What would they do with that place? Build a base for backdoor invasion into China? Or do they think Afghanistan is more winnable than N. Korea?

He should not decide how many- let the military tell him what they need

...with the U.S. asking other NATO nations to match...

NATO's looking less and less obsolete I guess.

No one has ever tamed Afghanistan and no one ever will.
We have spent enough money and lives trying.

That's odd. I didn't see George W. Trump on the ballot last November.

Word of advice to President Trump: If the U.S. couldn't win in Afghanistan in 15 'effing years (whatever the hell "win" even means anymore), then the U.S. military shouldn't even be there for 15 more minutes.

They couldn’t get rid of Trump through the Russian hack narrative, so now they’ll convince him to do things that guarantee one term.

What does does a U.S. “ victory” in Afghanistan look like?
How do 5,000 more troops get US there?
I think the American people deserve a clear answer to the first question.
I think Trump then better demand irrefutable proof to the second from his trigger happy SecDef.

Trump... is still deciding on a variety of options being presented to him by U.S. military leaders...The Washington Post first reported that the plan could involve an increase of at least 3,000 troops...

So Trump is letting his commanders present him with options...and the Post is spinning it as Trump is ready to send thousands of troops. I trust Trump so far. He is not going to send troops to tame Afghanistan. He will choose the path that is in our nations best interest given where we are today. That's all anyone can ask.

The military cant “ tell him what they need” until someone tells us all what the hell we want to achieve.
Stalemate with terror? Drug racket protection for some token national government in exchange for controlling the flow?
What would be worth sending a Trump son or daughter to die for?

‘senior administration officials told NBC News.’

Kindly tell me who these officials were. What excuse did they offer for leaking sensitive information to one of the networks that hates Trump fiercely and blindly?

Because the military has no interest in war. They will always choose to make themselves irrelevant. Not likely.
