Sen. Susan Collins on Sunday called it a mistake for the House Republicans health care bill to defund Planned Parenthood. That is an important issue to me because I dont think that low-income women should be denied their choice of health care providers for family planning, cancer screenings, some well-women care, the Maine Republican said on ABCs This Week.
Its not the only issue in this huge bill, but I certainly think that its not fair and it is a mistake to defund Planned Parenthood, said Ms. Collins. But its one of many issues.
The American Health Care Act, passed Thursday by the House, redirects most federal funding from Planned Parenthood, the nations largest abortion provider, to community health care centers, which outnumber Planned Parenthood facilities by about 20-to-1, according to Life Site.
About half of the funding in Planned Parenthoods annual $1 billion budget comes from the federal government, primarily through Medicaid reimbursements.
Ms. Collins, a moderate who has emerged as a key swing vote in the health care debate, has introduced with Sen. Bill Cassidy, Louisiana Republican, a separate bill to unwind Obamacare.
She said the Senate would be starting from scratch rather than using the House bill as a launch point.
The House bill is not going to come before us, said Ms. Collins. The Senate is starting from scratch. Were going to draft our own bill, and Im convinced that were going to take the time to do it right.

It’s hard to argue which is dumber...the House or the Senate. Or Democrats or Republicans...
Go away RINO.
What a shock. Just get it over with Susan and cross the damn aisle.
I thought only the abortion clinics of planned Parenthood were defended. Screenings, etc. we’re still being funded.
Despite their wins, I honestly feel that the GOP is dead.
We conservatives had better get to work building a real opposition party.
Soon.
You think we’d do better in the minority with Chuck Schumer as Majority Leader? I wish we could magically transform the RINOs into warriors. But that ain’t the hand we’re dealt.
Hey Susan...tell your constituents to practice birth control. If ANYONE needs an abortion, let THEM pay for it. If they cannot pay for it, tell them to keep their pants on.
As usual, not a word about ultrasounds, sonograms or pre-natal care.
She's NOT a "moderate", she's a RINO, a noted LIBERAL Republican.
Also notice that on TV, during this health care non-stop news, liberal RINO Republicans are always being referred to as "moderates"....even on the Fox news network.
Fake reporting to the nth degree!
Leni
If Abortions and birth control are so d*mn important why have I never heard anyone try to push this in Afghanistan or Iraq? Or any other third world country? It’s all about women’s rights, isn’t it?
RE: Hey Susan...tell your constituents to practice birth control. If ANYONE needs an abortion, let THEM pay for it.
She’s going to trot out the usual talking points about rape and incest.
Can Trump give her a nice ambassadorship and let Gov. LePage appoint a replacement?
But that wouldn't be fair!
Regards,
Destructive. Stupid and leftist commie And yes they go together. Needs quickest possible replacement.
PP actually doesn't do any cancer screenings.
Susan Collins: House GOP made mistake in defunding Planned Parenthood
No dummy, just the part where the federal government funds in the womb infanticide That was the only part defunded.
You know, like getting the federal government out of the business of killing the MOST vulnerable among us.
Abortions were never funded.
The argument is that money given to them for screenings ends up indirectly subsidizing abortions.
The massive regulatory, surveillence and progressive nanny-state is funded by one thing - the ability to create huge amounts of debt in printed, unbacked, Federal Reserve dollars.
Nothing will change until that is changed.
Trump is setting her up like Paul Ryan.
