This time we should consider prohibiting making provisions for Congress to flee the Apocalypse. At least we should get a new government from the debacle.

I’ve seen a couple proposals to decentralize government and make representatives live in their districts, meet via teleconference and have very infrequent face to face meetings.
I like it.
When I moved to Maryland, I was encouraged by one thing, and one thing only. The General Assembly by law only meets 90 days per year. Because they are so heavily skewed democrat, I can’t imagine the damage a full time legislature could do.
Of course, they get $50,000 per year for a 3 month job. Thant’s better than teachers.

The reason the US gave up on the idea of fallout shelters was based on a very comprehensive study that estimated far *lower* casualties if the public just stayed where they were than if they tried to flee to a shelter or hit the highways.
There was a multitude of reasons for this, but also a lot of real data, not just from Hiroshima and Nagasaki, and atomic testing, but from the real world experience of the Texas City Disaster, which was the closest thing to a non-radioactive nuclear detonation.

The only thing the government was ever really concerned about in the event of a nuclear attack was saving their own worthless skins.
They did everything possible (using our tax money) to ensure their own safety and long term survival in places like Raven Rock, Cheyenne Mountain and others.
For the rest of us they were content to print pamphlets instructing school kids too hid under their desks and showing city dwellers the location of underground train or subway stations.
The only thing the government was ever really concerned about in the event of a nuclear attack was saving their own worthless skins.
