Charles Barkley, who caught some heat in 2014 for calling rioters in Ferguson, Mo., “scumbags,” might not be everyone’s go-to guy to talk about race, much less to spark a national dialogue on the subject.
But the former Sixers great and Inside the NBA analyst will be talking plenty – and listening, too — in his four-hour docu-series, American Race. (When the show was first announced last summer, its working title was The Race Card.) The first episode gets a preview after NBA playoff coverage Sunday (11:30 p.m., TNT). On Monday, all four episodes will be available on demand, or on the TNT app, before the show runs in its entirety at 9 and 10 p.m. May 11 and 12.
“In this country, we don’t like to talk about race. But race gets into everything, whether we like it or not,” Barkley says in Sunday’s premiere.
“I grew up poor, in Leeds, Ala., in the ’60s and ’70s. We had Selma, we had Montgomery, and now 50 years later we’re more divided than ever,” he says, sounding exasperated. “I just want to give everyone a seat at the table. It’s about time we talk about race in America.” That first installment takes Barkley to Baltimore, where, in 2015, riots followed the death of Freddie Gray, who’d succumbed to injuries sustained in the back of a police van.
“Police brutality. We’re seeing too much of it. Baltimore, New York, Ferguson, we’ve seen too much. But I’ve always felt there’s no good reason to riot.
Baltimore went up in flames, and a lot of people got hurt. I understand, and support Black Lives Matter. But I’ve always thought it was stupid to destroy your own neighborhood. I want to find out what the hell happened in Baltimore,” Barkley says.

I shutdown at the term “conversation”. Same with “dialogue” used in place of “talk” or “talking”.
I thought it was all we ever talk about save for the sexual fad of the day.
If you convince people that other people hate you, which the Democrats have been doing ad nauseam, then once happy and contented people will get suspicious of each other and then angry. That is the game here and it is how the Democrats keep themselves in a job.
Anyway, the solution is not to blame, which the Democrats do so well, but to bring people together instead of drive people apart.
Lots more poor white people that do not spend time and effort discussing how things have been unfair or not to their liking.
They are not unique in their biased treatment or suffering. They are the only group spending time demanding others who have done NOTHING TO THEM feel guilty about it and PAY them for it. Only group to conjure up a whole guilt industry and blame others for their people who turn out to be thugs that attack and murder others and try to get rich by attacking those that defended themselves.
One way trip back to africa. Citizenship gone. Never allowed back into this horrid place ever again, for their own safety.

On the other hand, it would be stupid to expand the rioting to “other neighborhoods.” But I don't think that that was his point here. At least, I hope not.

It’s getting extremely tiresome. Part of the reason I stopped watching CNN. On top of the non-stop Trump bashing, they cannot get off the topic of race.

Only if we can also discuss culture, crime stats by demographic, and not raising your progeny.
The real issue is whether or not all cultures are equally successful. But you can’t talk about that without infringing on Protestantism’s religious claims. So the discussion never happens.
