A 97-year-old woman living in Metairie, Louisiana finally received her high school diploma, which she had previously missed out on by only completing the 11th grade. Katherine Summers Martinson quit high school in Picayune, Mississippi during the Great Depression to help her family, and her education was further delayed by the start of World War II in 1939, according to WDSU. But on Tuesday, she finally got what she's always wanted when Picayune Memorial High School presented her with an honorary degree at her home in Metairie.

Leftists always seize upon war as an opportunity to impose social change. The alliterative linkage of disparate images — the delicately feminine “Rosie” with the sweaty “riveter” — was a neat touch, driving home the Marxist-Leninist subtext that human beings have no essential nature but are malleable according to will. It’s an ideology that’s borne much bad fruit in our own time, with feminism and queer theory.

You have a somewhat loose understanding of World War 2 and what it took to win it.

I imagine she finally decided the lack of a HS diploma was the reason no one would hire her anymore!

“Leftists always seize upon war as an opportunity to impose social change.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The alternative would have been to send the women off to defeat the Axis powers and let men fill the non-battle defense jobs back home. Now *that* would have been social change.
The standard narrative of the Great Patriotic War is dictated by the left, comrade.
"What country was she living in at the time? "
Maybe when she heard that the French had surrendered, she thought they were Cajuns...
It did start earlier than 1941 - in 1939 in Europe(and earlier that that with Japan’s activities in China).
Further delayed by the start of wwii in 1939......
in EUROPE. not here.
While we supplied allies we did not enter the war until December 1941/fully in 1942. Pretty big time gap she could have gotten that last year in.
In the United States preparations for war moved slowly. General George C. Marshall took over as Chief of Staff in 1939, but the Army remained hard pressed simply to carry out its mission of defending the continental United States. Defending overseas possessions like the Philippines seemed a hopeless task. In early 1939, prompted by fears that a hostile power might be able to establish air bases in the Western Hemisphere, thus exposing the Panama Canal or continental United States to aerial attack, President Franklin D. Roosevelt launched a limited preparedness campaign. The power of the Army Air Corps increased; Army and Navy leaders drafted a new series of war plans to deal with the threatening international situation. The focus of military policy changed from continental to hemisphere defense.
The U.S. may have not have entered the war until 41 but we knew in 39 we had better prepare.
