Earlier today Secretary of State Rex Tillerson talked to the employees at the State Department and delivered outstanding remarks to explain the Trump administration foreign policy approach. T-Rex talks about the ongoing State Dept. mission and how values and policies intersect with the larger America-First strategy.
Specifically T-Rex explains how the distinction between U.S. values relates to U.S. policy but determinations of influence and our best interests cannot necessarily be contingent upon foreign governments accepting values that are inherently different to their culture.
These remarks delivered to State Dept personnel are exceptionally well presented and intensely interesting.

State is more than a Swamp, it's a morass.

“and our best interests cannot necessarily be contingent upon foreign governments accepting values that are inherently different to their culture.”
But apparently that’s just hunky dory for us to do. Ever notice? They can demand everything be done according to their culture, and we are never allowed to tell them if they want something from us, THEY need to please OUR cultural norms.
I get it if we are begging them for something and accept their backwards crap to get what we want. But these foreign bastards mostly want money from us, access to our economy, or for our soldiers to die fighting for them.
Seems like THEY should be the ones dancing like a monkey on a stick to win our favor.
Ill know the world has changed when a Saudi king is told not to kiss or try to hold hands with a US president, or Americans might think he’s a homo.
My wifes uncle was with the CIA for 35 years. He retired when W got elected. He couldn’t stand to work under another Republican. Like so any government employees he got more liberal as the years passed.
Sounds like your wife’s uncle got swallowed up by the swamp.
That was actually a pretty good off-the-cuff little chat.
Leadership is a funny thing. Study it all you want, but when you see it/hear it.... you know it immediately.
The job of improving the State Department is not something that will happen any time soon. But the State Department can certainly start improving by solving some of the critical issues of the day and re-establishing proper relationships between the US and the rest of the world.
I thank God every day that we have Rex Tillerson as Secretary of State instead of grifter Hillary or clown Kerry. It is such a welcome change. So nice to have a capable executive in charge instead of a clown.
We are turning the "nob" as Tillerson calls it. I don't think there is any way that China can influence Kim or that Kim will respond positively to our turning of the "nob."
Kim has always lived in a bubble in which people told him what he wanted to hear.
Those people who didn't tell him what he wanted to hear were killed.
His grasp on reality is not tenuous...it is severed.
