Democrats confident they can block Trump’s agenda after spending-bill win

Democrats think they have set the stage to block President Trump’s legislative priorities for years to come by winning major concessions in a spending bill to keep the government open.

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and Senate Minority Leader Charles E. Schumer (D-N.Y.) secured nearly $5 billion in new domestic spending by exploiting disagreements between Trump and GOP lawmakers over spending priorities.

Democrats’ lopsided victory on the five-month deal, which is likely to be approved this week, means it will be very difficult — if not impossible — for the GOP to exert its will in future budget negotiations, including when it comes to Trump’s 2018 budget blueprint.

That’s because Republicans are hopelessly divided over how much to spend on government programs, with a small but vocal minority unwilling to support such measures at all. That has forced Republicans to work with Democrats to avoid politically damaging government shutdowns.

And that means Democrats are in the driver’s seat when it comes to budget battles, even with Trump in the White House.

Democrats are counting on GOP infighting over spending to guarantee that those parts of Trump’s agenda won’t be funded in the next spending deal, either. So why did we vote for Trump? Yes, I'm still in Trumps camp and will stay and support him.

Why shouldn’t the Democrats be confident?
They have effective control of Congress because of their friend and ally Paul Ryan, who also wants to stymie President Trump’s agenda.

Well to be fair; it’s not just the democrats who have blocked Trump on this spending bill.

Plenty of Repubs have also joined in. They too have sabotaged things and averted real progress.

Yep, it is time to go back to the 51 Rule, the hell with this 60 vote BS. It is also time to vote a lot of these life-time office holders OUT.

Why, those sly little Democrats, even when they lose, they win.

Like a puppy on a tether, they come out yipping and all ferocity, charging fearlessly.

Until they hit the end of the tether. Then astonishingly, they flip up and backward, knocking themselves silly. They get up, dazed, then go off yipping and all ferocity, at something else.

The tactics do not change, only the object of their ferocity.

Democrats' lopsided victory on the five-month deal, which is likely to be approved this week, means it will be very difficult -- if not impossible -- for the GOP to exert its will in future budget negotiations ...

That reads like nonsense to me, or a wishful conclusion. The fact that Congress more or less carried the 2017 budget (an Obama budget) through to its conclusion signals darn little in the way of the chances of any later budget.

Plus, if this was a "lopsided victory" for the DEMs, doesn't that signal that the GOP will is roughly in harmony with the DEM will?

"Broad bipartisan agreement this time signals disagreement in the future!"

This article is pure agitprop.

Folks...I trust Trump...he has outfoxed both the Republican & Democrat Establishment, because he thinks differently then they do!!! Let the failing Democrat scum gloat...they are going nowhere!!! Yes, there will be a wall built, yes Obamacare will be repealed, Yes, our military will once again be the strongest in the world, Yes, tax reform bills will go through, Yes........ there will be an authorized, approved “Infrastructure” bill passed and, signed by POTUS, Trump!!!

Actually shutting this government down for a good period of time would be a great thing for our country, IMHO!!!

And,. of course no back pay for the Federal Government, non essential employees, who are naught, but, lazy scum & vermin!!!

The only thing I can think of for the budget extension is that it does give lots of military spending. We are about to go to war with NK and we need very much rebuilding in our armed forces. Mabe no time to haggle because NK could be a real problem.

I votede for trump hoping he would do a Pinochet. I didn't expect he would but if anyone could get wrench us out of the totalitarian trajectory, he could and no one else running for the office would even make a dent in it. Perhaps Trump will at least leave us with a few years or a decade of prosperity. If he doesn't get on his horse and use his saber, though, that is the very best we can expect. If he doesn't make some major changes in in the Republicans' face, I suspect the elections in 2018 and 20 will reverse the apparent progress of the last two elections and everything he manages to accomplish will be mostly dismantled before he leaves office, assuming he stays the 4 years or 8.

Lawmakers passed a weeklong stop-gap spending bill Friday, which Trump signed. But I didn’t think he signed the budget in question yet.
