There May Be More To North Korea’s ‘Failed’ Missile Test Than Meets The Eye

North Korea’s latest missile test may have been more than just another failure.

U.S. Pacific Command reported that the ballistic missile, which has yet to be identified, “did not leave North Korean territory.” The weapon reportedly broke up over North Korea several minutes after launch, but it may not have been a botch.

Saturday’s missile failure may have been a deliberate explosion, South Korean government officials told the Korea Times. “We don’t believe the mid-air explosion was an accident,” South Korean cable news channel YTN quoted government officials as saying. “It’s believed the explosion was a test to develop a nuclear weapon different from existing ones.” The theory is that the North may have been testing a nuclear warhead.

An EMP would have limited ability to cause damage in North Korea. LOL

I’m sure it would cause some, but it’s the nation without lights at night.

In the capital, perhaps there would be harm.

Elsewhere, what’s it gonna do, put out kerosene or oil lamps?

"An EMP would have limited ability to cause damage in North Korea."

But it does require an above ground detonation, which is what happened here.

Very troubling. Exactly what many of us have been warning about.

If it gets over the mid-Pacific an EMP would take out CA, OR, and WA.

"We are going to test a nuclear warhead over our country.

But, we can only do it once, so lets make sure we get it right."

Hopefully a few pieces fell into China, so China realizes this is really THEIR problem.

An EMP would not “take out” CA, Or, or WA, but render them impotent.

But I hope Kim is not so dumb that he realizes that if he did such a thing, his country WOULD be taken out.

My guess is that NK will attack the East Coast with an EMP. They know that the Navy will protect the West Coast. Watch where they send their sub tenders

Doubt it’s an EMP. It’s probably a dry launch test for submarines or a dirty bomb test for nuclear material scattering. For an EMP, you would need a nuclear explosion, which would be instantly traceable through isotope release in the air. They probably wanted to test a dry launch from a sub and keep debris inside NK borders.

Max altitude of 45 miles? “low earth orbit” is about 90 miles so that missile was doing pretty good.

Yeah...too bad there's no Navy on the East Coast.

I’m not sure I’d weep over the left coast being thrust into darkness. Our military assets there have back-up systems and built-in redundancy, so they would not be affected too much.

"EMP weapon test?"

Does anyone honestly think that with all the electronic monitoring focused on North Korea and this test that an EMP signal would have not been detected???

Speaking in generic terms. Of course it wouldn’t “take out” CA as in a nuke blast, but it would send CA back to the 1200s, which is almost as effective.
