I have been a registered Republican my entire adult life. But the neutering of the GOP by its establishment mafia has left me no choice: At the earliest opportunity, I’ll part company with the Party of Lincoln and register as an Independent.

I can’t support a party that has become nothing more than the women’s auxiliary of the Democratic Party. - Jim DeMint - Dec 6, 2012

Also, why did he leave senate?

He believes so much in term-limits that he promised to leave after two terms and he kept his promise.

THC had an interesting take on Demint’s future plans - helping the WH craft legislation which Congress has NOT done and lobbyists will not do as Trump’s agenda conflicts with their goals.

.
The Heritage Foundation has needed to be put out of its misery for quite some time.

That’s a very good point.

Heritage seems more concerned with raising money than promoting conservative thought. IMO

“if that’s true then Heritage Foundation needs to be put out of its misery”

Sooner the better.

He felt that Heritage offered more opportunity to provide Conservative Education and outreach to the unwashed masses

Neither DeMint nor Needham nor anyone prior to them at Heritage ever had any interest in the unwashed masses. Their single minded goal has been incestuous relations inside the choir. Their goal has always been to create a conservative swamp where the insiders are our insiders rather that the Left's insiders.

Maybe there is a justification for mercy killing... at least of organizations.

I was asking the same question. I thought he was good in the Senate. Maybe somebody on the forum can enlighten us.

Tempest in a teapot.

Jim knew he was out when he kept other people at Heritage Foundation from pumping out a paper or two that were just like the NR #NeverTrump issue.

I wouldn't be surprised to hear that he tendered his resignation at that time but Heritage persuaded him to stay until the end of first quarter 2017.

"Maybe somebody on the forum can enlighten us."

He hates the BS inside the DC Bubble and 95% of the people he had to deal with. He only stayed through his reelection to keep the Republican party from having to spend any money on a Senate race in SC.

The Founding Fathers thought people would build a career outside of politics, serve a while in politics, and then return to their normal life. That's what he's doing, returning to a normal life instead of the putting on water waders and walking into the sewage every day.

After joining with a modest donation, I then started to get money-solicitation letters from them every three or four weeks. We don't just recycle in this house; we shred everything with our name or address on it. It was a pain in the keister to shred so many of Heritage's unwelcome soliciations and recycle the unwanted photos of George Bush, "newsletters", calendars, "surveys", etc. all designed solely for money-grubbing. And God knows how many other organizations they sell their list to.

It took me four written tries over a period of a year to get removed from the mailing list. It incensed me that they wasted so much money on harassing a small-time person instead of investing in good data mining to identify the likeliest substantial donors and the most effective intervals in which to solicit donations. Why should I give to a wasteful organization?

Very good points and I understand. I quit them and still got solicited. I’d just throw it away and eventually it quit.

I haven’t received anything at all from the RNC in about 2 or three years.

Here’s a good one:

My US Senator, Cory Gardner-CO was soliciting money to get rid of Obamacare. I raised hell. I told his office that what the hell is he doing...we elected him to do that.

Well done! Political fundraisers are shameless.

This is bad news. When DeMint was in the Senate, he was one of the most reliable conservatives in the place, and he took that to Heritage. Apparently, there is a coup going on by those who do not support the principles for which teh Heritage Foundation has always stood.
