WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) - President Donald Trump said he's open to raising the federal tax on gasoline if the money raised is directed "toward the highways," he said in an interview with Bloomberg.

Republicans in Congress have generally resisted a higher gas tax, but funding for highways has been hurt in part by the use of more energy efficient vehicles.

if the money raised is directed "toward the highways,"

In New York all the gas taxes are diverted away from Highways and totally for welfare programs. The they come around and do HUGE bond issues to attempt to fix the neglected highways.

And how much of this money would actually go to roads and highways? There would have to be death penalty laws and safeguards to keep the pols from diverting it to their own favorite swamps.

NO, Don ...

Find those places where the tax was BEFORE promoted to fix roads and get THOSE taxes directed to the repairs.

He uses a lot of hyperbole and usually opens negotiations by making comments like this. I ignore these remarks because the press likes to publicize them and sometimes twist them to undermine his support. When the final deal is done, then I will complain...or cheer depending on the results. Everyone needs to have some faith until we see the end result.

Well if feels like Trump did do something he promised when he was running: he’s taught the RINOs in congress how to win. Unfortunately, it seems their winning against him.

California just raised many taxes for highway funds. They do not fix the roads anymore in Cali, they give it to the poor, illegals and Jerry Browns pals on the train board of directors.

That is what would happen to these taxes. NO!

Until the government (State or Fed), stops using highway funds for bike paths, green belts, mass transit, and all other activities that are not Streets and Highways, I will not vote for bonds or a gas tax increase, if given the opportunity to vote.

I’m tired of (Democrats} winning.

First the complete budget cave on the wall, sanctuary cities, planned parenthood... And now this.

What a disappointment!

If the GOP congress won’t work with Trump he’s going to cut deals with the Dems. That’s how deal making works. Of course our congress critters could start by getting rid of the silent filibuster and then start passing Trump’s platform , but no lets blame Trump for giving up on our worthless do nothing GOP congress.

Double sigh.

I almost don’t want to look and see what the day’s news is from the Jivanka Sachs administration.
