Guess all the bad ass Swedes are over here these days cutting down trees, farming and doing hard work to feed their families, the timid ones are still over in Sweden and need to stay there.
There’s something to be said for the effect of self-selection with immigration, upon the native country as well as the destination country. It was largely a positive thing for the US up until the mid-sixties, then it became destructive. We’ve become the de facto dumping ground for the problem children of the world, to the betterment of their former countries but not to our own.

I truly believe that our pioneer and legal immigrant ancestors who had the courage to take the step to come here years ago had a certain determination and perseverance...a quality that perhaps many of those who remained in Europe did not possess.
I watch documentaries on the life of pioneers and travel through the country and often wonder how they made it across the frontier. It was not easy and many did not succeed, but the point to me is that they tried—just kept going.
