Is South Africa heading for civil war? The country is lurching ever closer to conflict [tr]

On stage in a stadium in Soweto, the township at the heart of the uprising against apartheid, South Africa’s president, in a green and gold leather jacket, was dancing a Zulu war jig. A court order against ‘hate speech’ meant Jacob Zuma, a former cattle herder, was banned from singing his favourite ‘liberation’ songs, including Bring Me My Machine Gun and Shoot The Boer. But, after listening to speeches in which a succession of obsequious cronies described him as a ‘giant’ alongside African leaders such as Nelson Mandela, Zuma delighted supporters at his 75th birthday celebrations a few days ago with fiery rhetoric instead — and in doing so sounded the death knell for the Rainbow Nation.

Just a reminder people thought Mugabe in Zimbabwe was a good chap until he went rogue.

I don’t usually hope for it, but I hope it does happen there.

SA was a British invention. A combination of greed, and sheer bumbling on the part of the Victorians.

Hopefully it will be a quick, and will resort in a negotiated split of the place.

You mean they were better under apartheid? Tell that to the worldwide left.

The same worldwide left that wants to reinstate that very concept, just with them in charge?

Every time the stupid AMC channel shows the movie “Lethal Weapon 2”, I think to myself that while certainly not condoning the white apartheid rule that ran South Africa all of those years, blacks in that country during that time were in a number of respects probably that better off compared to most of the rest of sub-Saharan Africa. And probably also compared to the South Africa being run by the ANC all of these years nowadays.

Probably?

Better? Economically, sure.

But I’m under no fantasy that anyone thought that the social and political set-up was anything but absurd.

I hope that what emerges is just a better SA where these people start working together for once in their 100 years instead of always looking for the first chance to shove a shiv into some other ethnic groups back.

We are not far behind. The only law and order are outside the blue counties.

Democracy it tyranny when the electorate is ignorant.

I forget who said it, but I was absolutely accurate

“Blacks don’t vote for the brightest, or even the most cunning” and that is probably the single biggest reason they are kept down.

A split country is the only solution. One run by adults. And the other by thugs.

Won't happen. Anybody with white or light brown skin (Indian subcontinent) who doesn't get out whenever and however they can will simply be "target practice".

Foreboding.

What you get when the only reason the man was chosen was BECAUSE of his race. Most “revolutionaries” do not move from their “revolutionary war” to government very well. When they come from the Left they nearly always become dictators.

I have a good friend who is African-American. He was born in Africa and immigrated to the US and became a citizen. (His skin is as white as the snow on Mt. Kilimanjaro, but I digress.) His family was essentially ejected from South Africa by the then new black-majority government policy of removing white land owners from their farms. His once prosperous family farm is now a wasteland.

South Africa used to be the medical miracle land where doctors escaping from the UK socialized medicine debacle could go to practice their skills in freedom. I remember when Dr. Christian Bernard performed the world's first human heart transplant there. Medical treatment there, now, is problematic. Majority governments are welcome to reap the harvest of their voters. Let's hope the US can avoid the harvest of socialism.

I've done some traveling in SA both before and after majority rule and have spoken at length to a number of South Africans. As a result I'm tempted to think I might know a tiny bit about the country...perhaps a bit more than the typical Westerner.

IMO South Africa should have been divided into at least two countries, one (and only one) for the whites and at least one (or more if the people demanded it) for blacks. On dividing it great care would be taken to ensure that resources were fairly divided (farm land, ports, minerals, etc).

Knowing something about their history and about the lives they lead it's easy for me to see why the whites wouldn't want to be ruled by blacks. And it's every bit as easy for me to see why the blacks wouldn't want to be rules by the whites...at least not in the way they had been in the past.

From what I've seen of it South Africa is a breathtakingly beautiful country. It would be a damn shame if it were to become another Zimbabwe.

Just returned from Zambia Namibia —with quick look at Zimbabwe.

Zambia and Namibia are thought to be well run while Zimbabwe, Mozombique and SA are sinking.

Walls were up all over the place in SA.
I had a very good time. But man I was operating in the bubble of a very good and very knowledgeable tour guide.

Too late for SA. They HAD their Civil War there and the white folks lost. Just consequences ever since.

Won’t work...The “adult” country will prosper...The “thug” country will not...

Then, the “thugs” will invade the “adults” and this starts all over again....

So I have read this many times over the years, but am still unsure whether it is a myth or not. I have read that at the time of dutch arrival that the entire region was mostly devoid of people. But as the dutch worked the land and became more prosperous, “immigrants” began to flood in. After a while they outnumbered the dutch

I don't remember who described marriage as "The triumph of hope over experience," but I suspect the same idea applies here.
