BERLIN: German Foreign Minister Sigmar Gabriel Saturday criticised Ivanka Trump's role as an adviser to her father in the White House, describing it as a form of "nepotism."
"For me there are things that remain strange, like for example the visit of his daughter to Germany which was treated almost like a world event, while the mix of politics with family and business reminds us instead of nepotism and would be unimaginable here," he said.
Gabriel was referring to the visit to Berlin of Ivanka Trump this week to take part in a women's empowerment summit at the invitation of conservative German Chancellor Angela Merkel.
"It always bothers me when members of a family, who have never been elected, show up suddenly as official state representatives and are treated almost as if they were members of a royal family," the Social Democrat said in an interview published Saturday with the German regional media group Funke.
Ivanka Trump, a former model who started her own fashion line, has worked for her billionaire-father Donald Trump's company and now has an office in the White House. She has been accused in the United States of benefiting from nepotism.
Commenting on the US president's first 100 days in office, Gabriel said the situation has "improved" but was "still not good."
Merkel, in an interview with the Madsack media group published Saturday, said she had "developed a good working relationship" with Trump, "which clearly does not exclude different points of view."
The two leaders have notably clashed over military spending for NATO and on trade.

It’s about time for the Germans to be reminded that they are a conquered people who were *allowed* to continue to exist only because it amused us at that time to do so.

Or course it’s nepotism. I practice the same with my adult children in my business. I know and trust each of my child’s skills and knowledge in the field they are knowledgeable in. I value their judgement because they were raised with the values my wife and I conveyed to them.
He’s right. Having Ivanka in a policy position is pretty much as straight-up nepotism as there is. She doesn’t have any policy experience and wasn’t elected to anything.
And the way she runs her mouth, I’m already wishing she shuts up and goes away for the rest of his Presidency.
She is learning that she cant go out and do as she pleases. They are already calling for an investigAtion over the world bank womens fund fiasco and there was immediate lashback over the Syrian refugee comment.

Europe still has royal families that they all fawn over. Nepotism is alive and well in Europe.
Keepin’ it real: One reason President Trump won is the distaste for both dynasties, Bush and Clinton. Jared and Ivanka in their positions is exactly what we didn’t vote for. Ivanka is particularly objectionable. She does not even pretend to support the Deplorable agenda, and works to undermine our priorities.

Or at least that’s what the media keeps whispering in your ear. I wonder why they would do that?
Yeah, I keep reading multiple articles about how, “reportedly,” she’s interfered or defeated many of Trump’s positions. Never see any proof.
