Chomsky is said to have some high IQ reflected in his work in linguistics, but every time he pontificates upon politics, society, the world, etc. he proves himself to be a blithering moron.
He does have a high IQ and publishes and does documentaries and speaks. This is evidence that smart is not the same as IQ and that fees for speeches are really ways to launder money. See Clinton and Obama.
Chomsky has done lots damage to linguistics. The basic problem is that his generative grammar throws away meaning. Like any other word or sentence structure, grammar has a range of categories that impart meaning. Grammar is not a meaningless transformation like Chomsky alleges.
