Westerners think that Buddhism is about peace and non-violence. So how come Buddhist monks are in arms against Islam?

everyone on the planet will either fight islam, surrender to islam, or die of.
Survival.
Islam has been at war with the rest of humanity since 622 A.D.
Only fools and useful idiots believe that Islam has any redeeming values.
Their goal is world domination and the subjugation, conversion or death of everyone else.
Smith and Wesson - approved by Buddhist monks!
Dahli Lama seal of approval with the admonition “Two to the chest, face gets the rest!”.
I read a great article many years ago by a Buddhist monk in Boston who had a carry permit. He explained that some Buddhist sects have a long tradition of acquiring martial skills. Their reasoning is that if a monk is unwilling to defend himself, how can he be expected to defend others?
Monk will kick you butt!............
The reason Sikhs carry a ceremonial knife is to remind them to protect the innocent.
The Islamic War started 14oo years ago and will end when all people alive are Moslem or when no one alive is Moslem.
Most or all of the famous Asian Martial Arts systems originate with Buddhist monks, including the Samurai. The Samurai compare pretty closely with the Templars and Knights Hospitalers in another tradition.
No, Islam will collapse and Temple sacrifice will be restored in Jerusalem before the tribulation.
Saw a bumper sticker a couple of years ago that stated “Arm Tibet”. A few decades earlier, the Clash sang “Ask the Dalai Lama in the hills of Tibet, how many monks did the Chinese get?” It was the opposite of their intention but had they paired the two, the may have been on to something...

"Ceterum censeo Islam esse delendam."

I concur.
Respect for life does not equate to suicidal behaviour. They either arm themselves, and fight if a fight comes to them, or they will have their heads removed by muslums.
And though they may die in the fight, they may take one or more of their killers along with them, preventing the murderous killers from taking the lives of other victims, and so the monks are in fact preserving life as they lose and take it. If there is anything to their belief in reincarnation, I hope they return as Tigers. Very, very hungry tigers.
It was pretty much the same for the Cao Dai of Vietnam, a religion steeped in the Buddhist beliefs of animism and ancestor devotion, but also strongly influenced by French Catholicism. When the Viet Minh and Viet Cong political commissars put them at the top of their *to do* list, the Cao Dai armed themselves and set up arms workshops around Tay Ninh. I carried one of their M1928A1 Thompson copies for a while. It worked. It had to.
