YPJ Spox: We will withdraw from Raqqa if US doesn’t show concrete reaction to Turkey airstrikes

Women's Protection Units (YPJ) spokeswoman Nesrin Abdullah.

Kurdish Women’s Protection Units (YPJ) spokeswoman, Nesrin Abdullah, has said that the group’s forces will withdraw from the operation to capture the Islamic State’s stronghold, Raqqa, if the US doesn’t take concrete action against Turkish airstrikes targeting Kurdish forces in Syria.

“The is unacceptable in international law. If the USA or coalition or the US [State Dept.] spokesperson can only say, ‘We are concerned or we are unhappy’ [about Turkey’s airstrikes] then we will not accept this. If this is the reaction, we do not accept it. It means they accept what was done to us,” Abdullah told Sputnik Turkish on Wednesday.

The spokeswoman for the all female YPJ, which is part of the People’s Protection Units (YPG), a leading force in the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces that has encircled Raqqa, went on to say that unless the US gave a concrete response they would withdraw from the operation.

“Until now we have been in a joint struggle with the coalition against ISIS [IS] terror. We are still involved in that struggle. [But] our people are expecting a response from us on why the coalition is not showing Turkey a concrete reaction. If the coalition does not show a concrete reaction then we will withdraw our forces from Raqqa. They [coalition] need to convince our people. We are not anyone’s stick to beat their enemies with.”

Abdullah concluded by saying that Turkey as a NATO member had carried out the airstrikes and that the lack of a response meant that NATO approved the attack.

“If a practical and verbal reaction is not shown we will re-evaluate and decide what to do.”

12 YPJ and 8 YPG members were killed in at least 18 airstrikes targeting a media centre and headquarters near Mount Karachok in Derik, northeastern Syria on Tuesday morning.

The losses of the Kurdish portion of SDF from Erdogan's air strikes left as many casualties as a month of fighting ISIS. The SDF told us before committing to liberate Raqqa that if Turkey threatened their homes, they would disengage and protect their families and homes.

Turkey's ground attacks have been responded to. There have been tanks lost and a howitzer. Casualties? Today was an extension of the air strikes.

Turkey must be convinced to back away so ISIS can be eliminated. I'd don't believe the elimination of ISIS has ever been Turkey's intent. I believe this is as much a relief effort for ISIS as it is a pursuit of Turkey's imagined enemies. Syrian Kurds have never provoked Turkey. It has always been Turkey shooting Kurds when the whim took them.

Now the game is more serious. Both the US and Russia have forces on the ground. Erdogan should feel less sure of himself, but possibly he doesn't. Very bad mistake.

Ask the Armenians how courageous the US is going to be in taking any action.

The Armenians didn’t have Trump behind the helm.

The Kurds have had our backs for years. We should have theirs. It’s a matter of honor.

Dam straight. The Kurds deserve Trump’s support. Turkey can stuff itself.

Trump has not acknowledged the Armenian Genocide any more than any of his predecessors did.

A relief effort for ISIS.

Turkey will again volunteer to take Raqqa, instead of the Kurds - if Trump were to accept that, ISIS would survive.

Surface to air missiles would be a showstopper, but diplomatic efforts are more likely.

If they withdraw from Raqqa, Turkey will take over the attack. That’s how Turkey wanted it in the first place!

What a messed up place.

If the U.S. does not tell Erdogan to back off the Kurds, it will be a huge disappointment.

Caliph Erodgen’s palace needs to be smoked to get his attention.

The truth is that Turkey greatly contributed to the insurgency in Iraq when they refused an entire prong of our attack to enter from their country. Our NATO ally betrayed us and cost American lives.

I wonder if the Kurds ever acknowledged their hand in the Armenian genocide? The answer is that they have done so on several occasions. A rarity for Muslims to ever acknowledge historical wrong doing. They deserve the protection of the US from the Turks.

Yes. Long ago. On good terms now.

Not all Kurds assisted Turkey. Some actively opposed at own peril.

Fact

Here is the timeline and details.

I have a friend who writes for Armenians and Greek Orthodox magazines. It is clearly understood for any who want to honestly examine it. Turks have always denied all of it. Never admitted any involvement. None

Turkey will not attack ISIS. He played at it in Al Bab and then after heavy losses made a deal for ISIS to leave.

Turkey is ISIS’s ally.

You’re being emotional and you know it.
The reason we didn’t let Turkey take Raqqa is that they would never leave.
