Dr. Vivek Murthy announced on Friday that he has resigned from his post as U.S. Surgeon General. Deputy Surgeon General Sylvia Trent-Adams, a nurse, will serve as acting Surgeon General. "As my colleague Rear Admiral Sylvia Trent-Adams takes over as acting Surgeon General, know that our nation is in capable and compassionate hands," Murthy, a holdover from the Obama administration, wrote in a Facebook post

Washington: Indian-American Surgeon General Vivek Murthy, appointed by the previous Obama regime, has been asked to step down by US President Donald Trump’s administration to put their own leadership in place.
“Today, Murthy, the leader of the US Public Health Service Commissioned Corps, was asked to resign from his duties as Surgeon General after assisting in a smooth transition into the new Trump administration,” the US Department of Health and Human Services said in a statement yesterday.
“Murthy has been relieved of his duties as Surgeon General and will continue to serve as a member of the Commissioned Corps,” the statement continued.
There is a story buried here my gut is telling me. The new one is only acting, why replaced with temporary person?
I searched "Surgeon General nominee" and did not find any information regarding a nominee from the Trump administration. Perhaps they believe that the deputy - a minority - is an adequate space-filler.
The biggest question should be what more of vital importance in our lives would be accomplished even if they picked a cartoon character as Surgeon General? Remember Jocelyn Elders? I would submit that Scooby Doo would have been better.

I agree, there is a story here. And the position is meaningless -see the political posturing done to AVOID any real medical action when Obola was trying to infect Americans with an west African disease to keep the Mexican border open.
Perhaps the only story here is another leftist Obama holdover trying to make himself a hero by departing the big bad Trump administration. He likely increased his value by 50% in the eyes of his future leftist employers and publishing companies.

Members of the Public Health Service went to Africa to take care of Ebola patients. The US Army went there and built treatment centers for patient care. It took Obama a while to decide to act, but he *did* finally provide assistance in the form of our uniformed services to Liberia to stamp out Ebola.
Ebola was never a threat to the US, and is highly unlikely to ever become one.
These people never served in uniform one day, yet suddenly they show up wearing a 2 star admiral's uniform with ribbons they never earned.
Have we run out of (sometimes grossly overweight) black women who never served in the military a day in their lives, to stuff into a Navy admiral's uniform?

Murthy was virulently anti-Second Amendment & considered guns a “health care issue”. Very glad he’s gone. Nothing negative immediately pops up about his successor - looks like she actually worked her way up. Dr. Murthy was Obama’s kind of guy - I remember when he was confirmed, it about made me sick (no pun intended).
Dr. Vivek Hallegere Murthy is the president and founder of Doctors for America, which grew from the campaign organization that was called Doctors for Obama, started in 2008. The organization has advocated for a number of liberal initiatives, including strongly supporting the passage of Obamacare and Medicaid expansion.
The group has also been supportive of the Obama administration’s failed push for expanding gun control laws in 2013. It successfully fought a proposed Florida law that would have prevented doctors from including in a person’s medical file whether they are a gun owner. Doctors for America has referred to guns as a public health threat, and circulated a petition to pressure Congress to pass stricter gun laws.

Doctors who are strictly political? Wow. No wonder the doc fix was done in Obamacare, along with the insurers um fix. Guess who was left out, the nurses, X-ray and myriads of others.. and most importantly, the patients.
