Will an amended AHCA be any better?
DA Tech Guy ^ | 04/20/2017 | JD Rucker

I don’t make it a practice to comment on potential legislation before reading it. Speculation takes too much bias and rumors into account which tends to sway the reader (and author) in directions before the truth is even known. I’m making this exception because if reports that Vice President Mike Pence has negotiated a deal with the Freedom Caucus turn out to be true, it could be the best move made by the administration on health care since taking office.

Then again, it might be a big nothingburger.

The good news: limited waivers for the states. This means states have opportunities to bypass certain provisions of the AHCA that would allow them to help drive down premiums.

The bad news: essential health benefits carry over from Obamacare. This will limit the decrease (and even perpetuate increases) in premiums for the vast majority of Americans.

We’ll see how it pans out, but here’s the thing. I know many if not most Republicans are in favor of repealing and replacing Obamacare with the AHCA. It would boost morale and take away certain chunks of the oppressive economic burden that Obamacare has placed on us. However, the details are terrifying to anyone who believes in limiting government and defending the freedoms we hold dear. The original AHCA was a repackaged version of nationalized medicine that would push us further down the road towards financial oblivion and what we’ve seen of the proposed changes don’t change that. It would potentially slow down skyrocketing insurance costs, but it wouldn’t reverse them. In essence, it’s not a solution to Obamacare but a way to spread out the ill effects. We will still be paying way more than we were just a few years ago. We will still be ballooning the national debt and making little impact on our outrageously unbalanced budget.

{..snip..}

Depends.

Don’t torpedo those who want to keep part of what works about Obamacare.

There were MILLIONS of Americans, without insurance before Obamacare.

Sure it is very important it be dramatically improved, but do not forget to keep the coverage, for those who did not have it before, and keep the pre-existing conditions coverage.

Otherwise, absolutely, carry on.

Unless HEALTHCARE costs are lowered health insurance premiums will continue to rise.

That is true, but how can that be done? Squeezing costs out of the system would step on a lot of toes.

Trump need to EO the penalties for last year, too. They’re ridiculous.

Nope.

Just saying. We need to keep the coverages which Americans need.

Change the rest. But healthcare in America is an expensive MESS.

Bigtime. People need coverage. Everyone needs coverage.

Just repeal it and let the chips fly. A few regulations can fix anything found lacking.

I understand what you are saying...........and please ignore any negative comments others might make.........We are all welcome to express our views here.
I understand the repel and replace views as well but we now could cause more damage then Obama did if we do that. This needs to be really thought out as many will be effected no matter what is done

At this point, the substance isn't as important as the message it sends to the voters. Trump needs this victory to move ahead with the rest of his agenda. The optics are more important than anything else. It shows that the GOP can reach a consensus and govern. What good is it to have control of Congress and the WH and yet fail to repeal and replace Obama's crowning achievement, passed without a single GOP vote?

The people who are covered, which did not have coverage before.

Mostly, pre-existing conditions related.

That is a huge issue, and one which needs to be covered.

People need coverage. Everyone needs coverage.

The issue isn't coverage but affordable access. What good is coverage if the premiums are high and the deductibles so large that you effectively have what amounts to catastrophic coverage only?

Social Security
Medicare
Socialized Medicine

We should be privatizing all three, not accepting a socialized version of medicine.

We have to get government out of these things, or the Democrats can gain by always promising more than we can.

We don’t win by playing that game.

Get us the hell out of socialized medicine, socialized retirement, and socialized retirement medical care.

The time to do this is right this minute.

Start the process of conversion on Social Security and Medicare now.

Good grief. Obama must by laughing in his bathhouse right about now.

They should just transfer them all over to Medicaid with a share of cost instead of screwing with everyone else’s insurance and premiums. Which they’ve already done once when Obamacare was implemented. They screwed up everyone’s insurance for 20 million people. Then simply repeal Obamacare.

AHCA is rearrange and repair Obamacare, there is no repeal in it.
