Welcome to the Religion Forum!

Seems like the typical discussion panels on MSNBC, CNN and The Young Turks, imo.

One sure sign of toxicity is when a person is chronically unwilling to see his or her own
shortcomings and uses everything in their power to avoid being held accountable for them.

Yes. I argue politics and religion a lot on “no holds barred” sites where liberals and conservatives can duke it out without fear of banning, as long as they obey language rules.
As the article says, we all do those things to some degree, but they are the liberas’ MO. Most common are projection, ad-hominem and deflection (changing the subject). But a lot of those others are very common as well.

For education on how polticians manipulate, try reading the US Army Psyops manual section on logical fallacies. Every manipulative trick in the book is described.
Ever notice how politicians answer questions with no regard for what the actual question...it’s all in psyops manual.
The logical fallacies are things like “glittering generalities,” “affirming the antecedent”, “post hoc ergo propter hoc...”
Learn them all and know one can BS you. Seriously.

Funny, I know this old geezer who basically traps unsuspecting people thinking he really wants to have a conversation with them, but he just wants to spread his own narcissism(sp?). Avoid these people at all costs. They will suck your IQ right out of you! I will not talk to such people.

A lot of these are also Propaganda tactics and can be seen in our News Media daily/hourly.
I don’t have the computer or mental agility but it would be nice to have topic or thread where a posted story could be highlighted and the tactic pointed out for discussion.
Could be fun and educational.

In order to resist gaslighting, its important to ground yourself in your own reality sometimes writing things down as they happened, telling a friend or reiterating your experience to a support network can help to counteract the gaslighting effect. The power of having a validating community is that it can redirect you from the distorted reality of a malignant person... FreeRepublic is a validating community....
