CHP is Turkey's Republican People's Party (Turkish: Cumhuriyet Halk Partisi, CHP; [d͡ʒum.huː.ɾi.ˈjet hɑɫk pɑɾ.ˈti.si]) is a Kemalist and social-democratic political party in Turkey.

This party is the one that had been in control since Turkey's entry into NATO. Mustafa Kemal Atatürk founded it, his followers are refered to as Kemalists

They are not friendly to Christians or Kurds. But they oppose Erdogan the Islamists dictatorship. This is significant, they do have a following in Turkey. They are not aligned with the Islamist Muslim Brotherhood like Erdogan is.
