In a “Letter to the Editor” published in the Chicago Tribune this week, Louisville, Kentucky, resident Jason Powell wrote how he was a witness to the Sunday incident that involved David Dao, 69, being physically dragged off a full flight before takeoff at O’Hare Airport.“The disgusting mishandling of the situation included everyone from the rude ticket agent who demanded that this man give up his seat on the flight … to one of the officers laughing in the midst of the incident, to the violent, abusive way the passenger was dragged off the plane by the officer,” Powell wrote.

I disagree, they probably are laughing at how this has all blown up. The people who aren't laughing are the United execs who indirectly hired them, through the procedures that exist in the company. Even if, individually, few of them knew in detail what was in them.
They've already been thrown under the bus by their bosses. Still waiting for their names to be released. If their records aren't squeaky clean, the nets are going to have a field day.
They're all suspended and will likely lose their jobs.
There is considerable pressure to disband the Chicago Aviation Police since they were just graft created by Mayor Daly to give a job to a favorite security crony before he left office.
And then they quite likely face assault charges themselves. Maybe SEIU pays for their lawyers, maybe not.
I agree. Now that the airlines have decided they won't use force to remove someone the other passengers will just have to do it if they want to ever see that plane leave the gate. If someone else volunteers to take his place look for a lot of people to trip and "accidentally" hit their elbows with his face during the flight. He better make sure he's in a window seat. I really despise people who think they are better than others.
I doubt it will take more than one incident like that to convince all problem children like dao that leaving the plane peaceably is a far better thing than getting their ass kicked by fellow passengers because he feels special and better than them.
According to the reports, they were all 3 suspended. Initially the one that did the beating and then his other partners. And their Agency was considering pursuing criminal charges against them. So, if they are laughing, it is to keep from crying.

You know, that’s exactly what ALL of it is. I said it was shameful what the other poster wrote, not that he shouldn’t have necessarily written it. Same for my response. That was my right to question what he wrote. Now what could be wrong with any of it unless you’re a RAT, and then some people’s “free speech” are “freer” than others. Now go find a mirror!

Airports are just herding cattle in their view. Ever been stranded at an airport where there’s no concrete plans meaning you shouldn’t even leave? ...seeing hundreds of people sleeping on the terminal floors was disgusting and nobody has any real plans to mitigate the difficulties (old people, etc.), the airlines just say they can’t do anything because they don’t own the terminal. As a customer I don’t care, they should work with the terminal and have plans for such events. What they do today is pathetic.
The, ‘He planned the whole thing,’ myth would require an IQ of 80 to believe, IF anyone actually thought it through. You have a 69 yo dr, sitting non-aggressively in the seat the airline placed him in. He is explaining that he has patients to see at 8am, and that he is not going to relinquish his seat.
Why should he believe violence is about to explode? The airline is asking for “volunteers.” Dao is making it clear he won’t volunteer. How could he possibly anticipate that merely refusing to “volunteer” would unleash mayhem on him?
Does United have a long and storied history of tasing non-aggressive passengers, head-slamming them and dragging them off via brute force? If you say, ‘Yes,’ then perhaps Dao could have foreseen what was coming.
But if you say, ‘No,’ then you are imputing super-human, god-like abilities to this elderly man. You are saying he foresaw that his sumple failure to ‘volunteer,’ would result in broken teeth, a broken nose, a serious concussion, and facial reconstruction surgery.
Newsflash: Dao doesn’t have 20/20 foresight. At best, he thought his refusal to volunteer, for excellent reasons, would incline United to negotiate with the couple who had already offered to deplane. There is no humanly reasonable means by which he could have foreseen the horror show United was about to unleash.
Unless your IQ really is exceptionally low, you should be able to grasp that the, ‘He planned it all out,’ myth is stupidity at the bonehead level.

I think I’ve finally figured out why some of these FReepers are so vitriolic over the United Air situation. They’re all ticked off that they never had the balls to stand up for their rights themselves. The common factor among all of them is the “sheeple mode”. When told to get off the plane they’ll all just go along amicably never questioning supposed “authority”. They all say, just do what you’re told and don’t cause trouble for anyone else. Glad I’m not counting on them covering my back when the shit hits the fan. I’m of an age where I would rather take a stand than to be trampled on by unlawful/illegal commands. Sometimes you just have to say NO!
