Pro-Trump, Anti-Trump Rallies Converge in Downtown Berkeley Park
San Jose Mercury News ^

Scores of people supporting or opposing President Trump converged on a park in downtown Berkeley Saturday.

Trump backers were holding a Freedom Rally and Free Speech Rally at Martin Luther King Jr. Civic Center Park, while opponents of the president and his policies headed to the same spot at about 10 a.m.

It didn’t take long for about 200 people to mass at the park. About half of them were Trump supporters who were gathered to rally in support of the president, while the other half were anti-Trump protesters. Police in riot gear were standing by and put one man in handcuffs after several people started shoving each other.

Police erected a light, neon-orange barricade between the two sides, although some protesters were crossing through it.

Police were collecting some sticks that protesters had brought, which were banned at the park in advance of the protest. The city had banned a number of weapons — or items that can be used as weapons — in the park on Saturday, including metal pipes, baseball or softball bats, lengths of lumber or wood of any size, poles, bricks, rocks, glass bottles, pepper spray and other objects.

The plans for the events prompted the cancellation of this week’s farmers’ market in the park, which is held regularly on Saturdays. Market organizers said that while police had planned for extra safety measures, they could not guarantee safety at the event.

I can bet that in seconds, had the pro-Trump side started throwing m80’s into the other crowd, the police would have shut down the event. The snowflakes, of course, get a pass.

At least the testosterone is rising. From the most, protesters haven't had too much experience fighting. Silver lining award 👍

No, they’ve got tons of experience hitting people, the shocking part is probably that their intended victims are fighting back and I’m sure that deeply confuses them.

Heard the commie scumbags tossed M-80s at the Trump people. If I’m not mistaken, an M-80 is half a Block Buster which is a quarter stick of dynamite. Haven’t touched the stuff in 40 years, so I might be wrong.
