I retired out of Eglin AFB in 2000,and watched them test this weapon twice, about 10 miles east of Duke Field before I retired.

36? That’s all? Zero bang for the buck. Like using a million dollar Hellfire (?) to take out a tent and a camel.

Though this was the MOAB prototype I love seeing photos of bombs just before they it because this is what they're seeing!...as written from your link....."Injury or death to persons will be primarily caused by blast or fragmentation. It is expected that the weapon will have a substantial psychological effect on those who witness its use."

the claim of a one-mile damage-radius is hard to believe.

528 feet, I would believe

I thought the U.S. had ceased combat operations in that country?

I also wouldn’t discount the potential of a high value target being at the complex.

Most interesting is they killed “ISIS.” Did not know they were in Afghanistan.

It’s interesting that the MOAB was used now. I still think it’s being used as a warning to the Norks, Russians & Syrians.

Wasn’t a similar bomb used at Tora Bora, and another in Iraq?

Someone else may have done this on this thread, but I wanted to add this just in case.

This MOAB bomb was estimated to carry 21,600 lbs of TNT. LINK

That is 10.53 tons of TNT. (1 ton = 2000 pounds)

Definition of a kiloton: LINK

The Hiroshima bomb was pegged at 15 thousand tons of TNT and the Nagasaki bomb was pegged at 21 thousand tons of TNT. LINK
