Kay Ivey Sworn In as Alabama Governor

Lt. Gov. Kay Ivey is sworn in as Alabama governor by acting Chief Justice Lyn Stuart as her pastor Jay Wolfe looks on after the resignation of former Gov. Robert Bentley Monday, April 10, 2017, at the Capitol in Montgomery, Ala. (Julie Bennett/jbennett@al.com) Julie Bennett

Kay Ivey, the first female Republican in Alabama history to hold the office of Lieutenant Governor, is only the second woman to serve as Governor of the state.

Acting Chief Justice Lyn Stewart administered the oath of office to Ivey just after 6 p.m. Monday.

Ivey assumes the role of governor upon the resignation of Robert Bentley, who stepped down today over a barrage of ethics complaints related to his relationship with former staffer Rebekah Caldwell Mason.

"Today is a dark day in Alabama but also one of opportunity," Ivey said Monday afternoon. "Together we steady the ship of state and improve the image of the state. These are my two priorities as governor."

Ivey told the crowd in Montgomery she "never desired and certainly never expected" to be governor but pledged "the people of Alabama can be sure there will be no disruption in the functions of the state of Alabama. Today's transition should be viewed as a positive opportunity and a demonstration of our successful practice of the rule of law.

"I pledge to each of you that I will do my very best. The Ivey administration will be open, it will be transparent and it will be honest," she said.

Silly Republican. Only Democrats are allowed to diddle the help.

And all the El Creepo former-Gov talked about was how he prayed about it. Really? Those must have been some interesting conversations with God. Sometimes actions really do speak louder than words. What a jerk! And what a trollop she is! The ex-wife is the biggest winner of all of them. And this guy couldn’t endorse Trump because of his “language”... enough of these hypocrites.

Maybe this is the last of this sorry, sordid tale.

That’s my desire anyway.

Governor Bentley lived in fear, he was afraid of the Corporatist elites when Chief Justice Roy Moore of AL stood in the way of gay marriage.

Bentley said he wouldn’t join in because he was worried about folks in Alabama having jobs.

Moore was forced out by the ruling elites as Chief Justice for a second time.

Bentley was a very weak and compromised man as we now see.

I pray Bentley serves time in prison for his malfeasance. It wasn’t just his use of State Police and state resources to arrange his trysts (after all - Billy Clinton, the fornicator in chief did the same), but Bentley also missed campaign funds and abused the system in other ways. He is a criminal who gives the GOP a further downgraded name.

It’s time for Alabama to move on from the disgrace of Bentley.

The ‘cuck’ is still employed by the state. I expect Kay to have a meeting this week, and release both the ‘cuck’ and his wife from state employment.

The whole thing would make a great HBO mini-series....naive old guy talked into running for governor who has no talent at anything but business. Flirty 40-year old gal and her husband members of the same mega church as the old guy. Campaign and win. Husband is perfectly happy over his wife having the affair with the governor.

She ain’t wimp from what I have heard. I voted for her. I voted for Bentley, who sadly is like the majority of politicians, he got too big for his pants. He decided that his personal agenda was policy, and he let his pecker get the best of him. Just as a bunch of politicians do, they have do with their female assistants and such. He set our state back, but hopefully Ms. Ivy will kick butt and take names later.
