Children get that lesson naturally on the first day of class when they come in with their school supplies that they carefully picked out with mommy and daddy, and then the teacher confiscates their favorite pencils and crayons to put in the bin for everyone to use.

My son and his wife live a small rural town- we raised our kids there. Farming community. Son and wife went out and purchased school supplies from the school list. They paid for the better pencils, markers, crayons, etc. First day of school last year they were greeted by the teacher who told them to put his supplies in the community bin. Son went off and said nothing was mentioned about items being community. So they took stuff back to store and exchanged for crappy cheap items.
