You are correct they never offer cash.

As a way too experienced flyer:

1) They offer a company script with so many restrictions you can never use it.

2) It can only be used against the full fair price, which nobody really pays. The amount of the script is never enough to cover the ticket so you end up paying what you normally would for that “free” flight.

That is the precise reason I do not give-up my seat.
If they were smart they would "fan some nice crisp Benjamins" and walk the aisle of the aircraft seeking volunteers.
Heck, someone in a limousine (with that pocketful of cash) might make it to their doorstep faster than an airplane can make the 300-mile trip.
It was all handled very, very poorly. Attract people with sugar.
