It is such utter BS it is heartbreaking, e.g. As NSA, McMaster’s job is to synthesize intellience reports from all other agenciesActually that is DNI's job. The NSA job is to chair the National Security Council and bring options and recommendations to the president to deal with international issues. And if Mad Dog, or Tillerson thinks he is nuts they will tell the President that.

I can well imagine that McMaster told Trump that "if" you want to go in and take control of the mess in Syria you are going to need 150,000 troops on the ground - and nothing less will do.
I can't imaginge Mattis stating a number much different from that. That is not a recommendation, but a warning about the seriousness of the undertaking.
