We are in Syria to get that natural gas pipeline run through on it's way to Europe and if we have to arm, supply, train and fight with alqueda terrorists against the Syrian government then that's just the way it's going to be.

Until that pipeline connects the Persian Gulf gas field (worlds largest?) to Europe Russia will keep its monopoly on the supply of nat.gas to the Europeans. It's not just about the huge price benefit Russia gets from this monopoly position (though money is always a big factor in these things), it is the huge political influence they are able to exert as the ONLY supplier of natural gas to Europe.

A few years ago in the dead of winter when we were pushing Russia pretty hard on the Ukraine front there were a few "hiccups" in the Russian gas line and the Europeans quickly went into appeasement mode. What other choice did they have? Freeze to death in the middle of January with no gas?

I accepted the intelligence after some convincing, but where did those photos comes from of all the bodies lined up? Did it come from the US press? And should we trust the press? I mean those dead body pictures could be years old, could be the result of any conventional operation, or another conflict zone.

First you need land for the embassy, its parking garage and its grounds. Not easy when most of the land is already taken

The Allenby Barracks site is leased from Israel by the US since the late 80s, early 90s. Long process finalizing. So the site is and has been there for over two decades. Of course the palestinians claim they own it, like everything else in Israel.

Just owning the land is barely the start. The amount of regulations to actually build something must be staggering.

To start with, any excavation will be ponderous, just over having to sift everything looking for antiquities and/or human remains. Everything they find will cause weeks or more of delays.

Since local zoning laws probably don’t apply, all approvals will be from every Israeli national agency bureaucracy.

Security and vetting of everyone working on the project will have to be intense, along with site security and passive defenses against things like truck bombs.

The list just goes on and on, driving up both the cost and the timetable.
