The new approach seems to be to walk the cordon in closer around the City and Old Town, for a bit more of a siege, rather than sweeping on line from the South.
Coalition doesn't want any more embarrassing mass casualties of civilians from air strikes (ISIS sets them up), and the Iraqis were taking lots of casualties from the fast-paced approach.
I think they should still clear the city this year, likely this Summer.
If you are living among isis filth and not actively killing them one by one or as many as possible, you are one or more of them.
