My dad insisted that each of us kids change a tire for the spare before we took the car out the first time.

Same here. Our kids had to be able to change a tire and do an oil change before they could get their licenses. Our eldest (a daughter) even helped me re-torque the loose bolts on the torque converter spider - I'd just had an appendectomy and could not pull over 10lbs.

I traveled a LOT through the 60s to the 80s. I got broke down way more than once. I could do a lot of stuff on my motorcycles to get them back running with vice grips and a screwdriver. I also pushed one into a gully in Nevada when the engine seized up. I just packed all my stuff, and there was a lot, on my back and stuck out my thumb. I never felt “stranded.”

My 18 year old daughter and her friend were at my house visiting for a weekend when I was recently divorced, I told them to heat up some Chinese food in the microwave...

The friend wanted to know where to move the “strange machine” in front of the microwave to, she had no clue what it was...a folded-up ironing board!..

Yet he could have watched a youtube video of changing a car tire.

Things have never been easier than today. Every time I am uncertain of the process how to do something, I go right to the internet, usually youtube, sometimes other source.

You can learn to change a tire from watching a youtube vid. You would think he would know.

If I were president of China, I have memos sent to all my generals saying: WARM UP THOSE JETS, POLISH THOSE RIFLES, WERE HAVING KUNG PAO AND CHOW MEIN AT TRUMP TOWERS NEXT YEAR!

China isn't that aggressively expansionist - but ISIS leaders already said something very much like this to their commanders about Europe.
