They will use the nuclear option to expand the number of SC justices and then add progressives. Roosevelt almost did it.

The fact that he belongs to a very liberal church is troubling to me. We shall see.

It should concern you more that he converted from Roman Catholicism TO that pro-abortion, pro-gay church as an adult.

It always took a simple majority vote to appoint a justice. It took 60 votes to over ride a filibuster.

“Except there are not 50 GOP Senators who would vote to confirm a real conservative Associate Justice.

I don’t know that there are 20.”

Bears repeating.

Why should that be a concern? From my perspective, Catholicism is about as big a scourge on the world as any religionI can think of! Between the Drug Lords and the Catholics, Mexico, and indeed most of Central and South America are screwed. How anyone who is a Catholic could stay a member with this Pope is amazing to me. Even St. Peter would leave the church he “founded” if he were here today.

Well, it’s understandable that anti-Catholics would see it your way, sure.

But it’s also wrong, and easy to see why, if you give it two seconds thought.

I spent some time in the Episcopal church in the 1990s. I met quite a few Catholics who converted. Without exception, the only two reasons a Catholic would become an Episcopalian as an adult were 1) Being radically pro-abortion, or 2) Being radically pro-gay. Ritually, the Episcopal church is very similar to Catholicism.

I also know Catholics who have converted to evangelical or “Bible-believing” church, and they are, for the most part, much more like what you are suggesting.

But that’s not what Gorsuch did.

I didn’t know that. That is bad indeed. The church in question is not just liberal it full on radical. AGW, LBGT, Abortion the works. The dyke “minister” denounced Trump at the stupid women’s march.

They all are.

The whole dam town is that way.

The Senate, the House and the SC. Put a person in any one of those positions and within 6 months they go native.

There's just too much money lying around everywhere and any of the elected or appointed offices mentioned above is literally a license to steal.

They also need to fill in a lot of lower court positions, as well.

It does, and it is only a mild consolation that Thomas did also, before he converted back after having sat on the Court for a few years. Gorsuch needs prayers, the Court needs prayers, the country needs prayers.

His wife is British. If she was a very pious Anglican, or if her family had ecclesiastical connections, that could be the exception.

you just destroyed this article. Good for you. It also makes the assumption that we are going to have a majority for a long long time. always a dangerous assumption.

The GOP is now free to put real Scalia-Thomas types throughout the judiciary

Not with those 3 lady rinos, Collins, McCain, and the one from Alaska.

There was so much I liked about Ted Cruz. Too bad he didn’t stand up for Trump after the Chicago rally riot. That lost him my vote.
Tell me about it. I gave Cruz a large (for me) contribution - and the next thing, he pulls that unforced error. He condemned the rioters, which was appropriate - but he then proceeded to criticize Trump in the next breath, which was not OK.

The only thing that mattered at that moment was the violation by Hillary thugs of the right of the people peaceably to assemble. Discussion of Trump himself - or anything else - was, at that moment, out of bounds.

The really sad part it was clear someone told him to say it as all the other remaining candidates said the same thing. Cruz isn’t his own man.

There will be after 2018. There are at least 10 Democratic Senators up for reelection in red States that Trump won. Altogether, the Dems have to defend 25 seats, against only 10 for the GOP.

Even an ACLU radical sailed through confirmation. It’s only when someone conservative is nominated, that there’s any ginned up “controversy” or “concerns” by Democrats and the media about a nominee.

Sotameyer and Kagan were very qualified in the extreme to be Supreme Court Justices. They both were Judicial Scholars. They were also political activist judges. The Republicans did not try and fillibuster them as they only looked on the qualifications as they should have done.

In the words of Scalia, "The only thing wrong with a living Constitution is that will destroy the Constitution." The Constitution means exactly what it says. It can only be changed by Constitutional Amendment. Constitutional amendments are hard to do. It is supposed to be difficult. That is what preserves that great document of freedom. The Democrats fillibustered Gourch because he is a strict Constitutionalist. That is the difference in what has happened.

The job of a Supreme Court Justice is to interpret The Constitution as written and defend it. If they do anything else they have become activists and have usurped the legislative branch.
