Security researchers at Google and Lookout have discovered an extremely sophisticated Android app capable of spying on users by hacking their smartphones' camera and microphone, as well as track calls, messages, internet history and more.

Called Chrysaor, the spyware seems to be linked to Pegasus, a notorious program that was found to be targeting iPhone users in 2016 and is suspected of having been created by Israeli firm NSO Group Technologies. ....

I just installed Signal on our cell phone.
https://signal.org/

Open Source, total encryption and highly recommended by none other than Edward Snowden.

Started as text app but does voice now too.

The decision to exploit security holes in consumer electronics rather than cause them to be fixed was a strategic decision by NSA and CIA that might be right and it might be wrong.

But Rice, Brennan and Clapper did enormous damage spying on Trump, making it public and using it for political purposes. Now the choice is made. Everyone is now searching for spyware anywhere, and if the Maltese figure out how to produce unhackapple phones and PCs, they will dominate the markets rather than Apple or Windows on Android based systems.

Those idiots did immesurable harm to national security.

Signal isn’t really relevant to the Chrysaor attack/infection.

Signal will encrypt end to end calls and text (if keys are properly verified) but doesn’t protect your phone against spyware. Two different things.

In fact, if your phone was infected with Chrysaor, your phone and text messages could conceivably be intercepted BEFORE they were transmitted securely using Signal or AFTER you received and decoded them.

“Israeli? Or NSA/CIA pretending to be Israeli?”

Who knows? Or, Russians ... Tours makes this suggestion ironically, but who knows? There are Russian crime gangs established in Israel. They are the sort of people who, once in, never get out.
