Haley forces Bolivia to defend Assad 'atrocities' in 'public view' at UN session

U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. Nikki Haley forced Bolivia to "defend the atrocities of the Syrian regime" in "full public view" on Friday, after the country's ambassador requested a closed session to discuss President Trump's strikes in Syria.

Trump ordered the missile strikes in response to a chemical weapons attack by Syrian President Bashar Assad Tuesday which killed dozens in northern Syria.

Haley revealed the Bolivian ambassador's request for a private emergency session of the U.N. Security Council in a written statement Friday morning.

She countered: "The United States, as president of the Council this month, decided the session would be held in the open. Any country that chooses to defend the atrocities of the Syrian regime will have to do so in full public view, for all the world to hear.”

At the session, Haley stood by the U.S. actions, and said that when the international community fails to act, it is up to individual states to act themselves.

”The moral state of the Assad regime could no longer go unanswered. His crimes against humanity could no longer be met with empty words. It was time to say enough. But not only say it, it was time to act,” she said.

Good on her! Show the vipers in this den that she isn’t a light-weight that can be pushed around.

Who is better than Assad in Syria? Who does the US want to see in power?

All this grandstanding. Reminds of babies being thrown out of incubators.

Good for her, though doubtless assad would find eager defenders who will post against her on this thread. Some people like a genocide.

"The United States, as president of the Council this month, decided the session would be held in the open. Any country that chooses to defend the atrocities of the Syrian regime will have to do so in full public view, for all the world to hear."

In other words, the only purpose of the session was to put on a public show.

When Trump chose Haley for the UN ambassadorship, I cringed, thinking, as the (other) Don put it, that you should keep your friends close and your enemies closer, and letting someone who was your political enemy flail away in NYC while you’re in DC is not keeping her closer. Today Haley made her bones, and I am pleased once again that it is Trump in the White House and not me, for I would never have chosen her. (Oh, and thank God it is not the Matron of Chappaqua either.)

It's "THROW THE BABY OUT WITH THE BATH WATER".

And FYI....premature babies, whom were deemed to probably be able to do okay, WERE THROWN OUT OF INCUBATORS, so that even worse off preemies could be put into them, during the early days of WW II, here, in the USA! Some of them made it; others didn't. So please don't use your made-up meme again.

You win the prize. Who will succeed Assad?

The goal of a moderate middle east, by now, should at this point be rejected as achievable. Impoverishment of muslim states by taking away their pricing power in the energy market should commence. With T-rex in charge, that may well happen.

Haley is doing fine, and she is a good reader, but it is TRUMP giving her voice. With him behind you there is a force in motion that is not your own. Deliver his message and you’re an instant hero. He’s showing that kind of strength.

He can MAGA!

Relax.

We broke some of Assad’s expensive toys; we aren’t invading his country to march on Damascus and take him down.

The strike was a figurative rap on the knuckles; a strong warning to lay off the chem weapons, and leave civilians out of the conflict. It was IN NO WAY a signal that the U.S. intends to depose Assad.

Hell, we didn’t even disable the runway at the base we hit. If we’d had in mind to truly cripple Assad the runways over there would look like the craters of the Moon right now.

Lotta jaw-jackin’ and political doomcasting going on right now & I’d encourage a less newscast-y reactive, more thoughtful and responsive posture. God knows we don’t need more people channeling Chicken Little.
