I suppose if they want to be “community activists”, they will go to the front of the line.
Personally, I do not like the arrangement whereby the schools are run by the CITY and overseen by the MAYOR. This just feels wrong to me. An independent and elected school board (while still susceptible to much corruption or dangerous indoctrination syndrome issues), is at least separate from the city government.
The mayor should not be setting the graduation requirements, IMHO.

Kids who are inclined to go to school will still go. Those with no interest will go through whatever hoops they have to go through, then stop. More likely those with no interest will just drop out of HS. Why go if they're not going to give you a diploma anyway?
