Here’s the full list of the tasks that Kushner is charged with:

• Reinvent the federal government, one of the biggest and most complex organizations in the world. As head of the “White House Office of American Innovation,” Kushner is supposed to bring the mindset and practices of the business world to the public sector. Given that his father went to jail for crimes including tax evasion, and that his boss declared four business bankruptcies, we can only hope Kushner looks far afield for role models.

• Resolve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The greatest diplomatic minds of the century all failed at this Sisyphean task, but at least Trump gave Kushner instructions. Asked about a two-state solution, Trump said: “I am looking at two-state, and one-state, and I like the one that both parties like.” That must be what negotiators call latitude.

• Manage the U.S. relationship with Mexico, a nation Trump repeatedly maligned during his campaign. Trump still claims Mexico will pay for the wall he promises to erect along the border. Those who want to see some hideous, unnecessary barrier actually built should wish Kushner good luck with that.

• Manage the U.S. relationship with China, another nation Trump has repeatedly maligned. The president continues to insist that China keeps the value of its currency artificially low, to boost exports, but presently that is not the case. If anything, the Chinese government is propping up the yuan. I’m sure President Xi Jinping will understand when Kushner explains the discrepancy.

• Assess how the fight against the Islamic State is going. Kushner landed in Iraq Monday along with Gen. Joseph Dunford, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, to get a firsthand look at the situation. “The more appreciation you could have for what’s actually happening on the ground, the more informed you are when you start talking about the strategic issues,” Dunford said.

The above is too important for a neophyte. I think the President has gone too far here but on the other hand, the President fired his own brother at one time. So he may be giving huge responsibilities to Kushner to see if Kushner can handle it. We want to think the President is in control and I believe he is. But the latest foray into Syria is not helpful to draining the swamp. It may have been a rush to judgment, it may have been a false flag. OTOH it may not be any of these.

The only thing missing from Field Marshal Kushner's wardrobe is his "Dukakis Helmet" ...

I don't care how much money he has ... this guy has "loser" written all over him.

A good way to solve “refugee” crisis is to remove need for people to leave.

I reserve judgment on JK.

Trump likes conflict (like Lincoln) among subordinates and, like Lincoln, is proud of his unwillingness to take their advice all the time.

Let this marinate a while. Stiries ALL fed by neverTrumpers or ppl inside wanting more power.

...the President fired his own brother at one time.

Which brother was that?

The snark in the article is strong.

I’m older than Donald. I wonder if he is testing Jared because, looking ahead, Donald could need to delegate more as he ages and he really seems to only trust family.

Trump is not a conservative. He is not a liberal. He is closest to an old-fashioned Fifties Democrat and the POTUS he reminds me of the most is Truman. He leads his own movement and as such, he seems to desire having diametrically opposed advisors, like Bannon and Kushner. If he were a martial artist, you could say he doesn’t adhere to a single form, but takes all forms and makes them his own. Neither does he appear static or set in his ways, which could be expected of a 70-year-old. He learns and grows as the situation demands.

Trump is, IMO, a boss. Or maybe if he was less economically successful, less socialized or less educated, a gang leader. He represents, in the ghetto sense and he protects his own (Americans), on the one hand, while beating down our enemies, on the other.

Also, at the first sign of betrayal of trust, he will fire or demote anyone. If he sees that much potential in Kushner, I’m inclined to let Trump go with his gut. I’m sure he’s watching carefully and I’m also sure Kushner’s brief is to work up plans and report back, at which time Donald will make the decisions.
