The “living, breathing Constitution” is leftist Newspeak for a “dead Constitution.”

It’s actually the only way liberals can “amend” the constitution without actually going through the constitutional amendment process.

He is getting CREAMED in the replies.

I have read several pages and it is like 99% telling him how he is incorrect on the facts, hypocritical in his views and he is NOT a journalist.

Tim Russert always wanted to present himself as even handed, and while he asked tough initial questions of his guests, he invariable gave ‘RATS softball followups or no followups at all, and he grilled conservatives with multiple followups. Just another scribe for the Dems.

>>What is interesting though, is that we found ourselves by going solid principles, in effect moving right ourselves.

But we did it by following a Nationalist who is considerably liberal (but totally anti-Progressive). The political battle of this century is not the old Liberal vs Conservative. It is Nationalist vs Transnationalist (i.e. Globalist, Progressive).

Bryanw92, I know there are folks just bursting at the seams to buy into that bull, but if you look at the bulk of Trumps efforts so far, they are Conservative.

As for the nationalist vs the trans-nationalist or globalist, I am on the same page with you there.

Is he a perfect Conservative? No. Who is? Most of us have an issue or two where we may be a bit more liberal than we would like to admit.

>>Who is?

There are ideological purists right here.

I’m not sure what you are calling bull and I didn’t say that his actions were liberal. I’m saying that he leans classical liberal (NOT the Liberal-Progressive stuff that the last 30 have produced but actual liberty-based liberalism). But he also honors promises and he promised conservative action. I just hope that tonight’s stupid interventionist move doesn’t unravel everything.

You may be reaping some of my angst with other FReepers who keep trying to portray Trump as some closet Leftist. If I mis-characterized your thoughts, I apologize.

What uttern nonsense - and look at all of the “likes” and “retweets” spreading the fake news.

And we also had an election to cast judgment on McConnell’s decision not to consider any appointment made by Obama (invoking the Biden rule) - the verdict was to award the GOP an historic level of power, and the election of President Trump and the holding of the Senate (in a very bad map for Republicans) was in no small part because of this issue.

Correct. More of the down payment can be made by getting all of the rest of the judicial vacancies filled as soon as possible with Trump appointees now that the same standard applies to both Republican and Democrat appointees. The Democrats used the Senate rules to stifle getting the courts filled with Bush appointees and left many vacancies for Obama to fill in addition to the new vacancies that occurred during his tenure, which they of course rammed through by not honoring the same traditions they claimed were so important before - he got to fill way more than what should have been his share.

Too many FReepers don’t understand the difference between liberal thought and Leftist ideology. I understand your angst and feel it too.

The Republicans were just following “The Biden Rule” from when former VP Joe Biden was in the senate and declared that no supreme court vacancy should be filled in the last year of an administration leaving power... Of course, Joe was aimed at the Repubs but if its good enough for dems, its good enough for Republicans to follow.

True enough.

But such geniuses as Biden and Russert are not restrained or guided by the past, unlike a historian such as yourself.

They are visionaries whose gazed is fixed far over the horizon, on a Leftist land of milk and honey, where someday even they might get another job.

That’s because there are two trains of thought related to liberal thinking.

You’ll avoid a lot of confusion of you stop using ‘liberal thought’ to describe something that has come to mean something else to most people.
