I wonder if such strep throat infections are coming in from other countries? I have never heard of such an infection causing infections in other parts of the body.

I think this is a very rare occurrence. Only about 1,000 cases in the USA per year. The weird thing though, is that another child in the area also developed this within the last 2 months!!! Very scary!

I am starting to wonder. With all our “diversity”, esp. in certain liberal enclaves, if we are collecting garbage from hellholes.

This CY has been hell for our private school. Started with a stomach flu traced to a ski trip - but then we got 2nd rounds and then warnings about strep and influenza which also hit our grade and the whole school. (Our son had 2 bouts of stomach and 1 of some respiratory thing in 5 wks.)

It occurred to me we have “diverse” people in our class as well as the whole school, and even in the midst of this 1 of son’s classmates went “home” to India. Also we have China, etc.

Oh yeah, left untreated strep can severely damage your kidneys. It has been discussed by forensic medical specialists who resd through journals that given the short time span and the onset of the illness - Mozart may have died from a strep infection.

When I was young I would get strep throat every year it seemed. The doc would swab my throat and then put me on whatever medication (probably a antibacterial) and I would be fixed up. I think in third world countries it’s very serious concern but ever since the advent of penicillin and other drugs that can take care of the strep infection it hasn’t really been an issue. But it is a very serious illness especially if left untreated.
