Senator McConnell must have had a “spine graft” from President Trump.

Come on Mitch, you can do this! You blocked Merrit Garland, Gorsuch will seal an excellent deal.

If Gorsuch is sworn in I will take back MOST of what I’ve said about the old turtle.

It means they will take a cloture vote. If there is no cloture then they can invoke rule 19 or they can say they don’t need 60 and just vote

Do they need 60 votes on cloture automatically or do the dens have to claim filibuster to need 60 votes?

Nice job, Mitch.

Cloture is the only procedure by which the Senate can vote to place a time limit on consideration of a bill, or other matter,........ and thereby overcome a filibuster.

Either that, or the uniparty has managed to turn Gorsuch.

Cloture means the debate or consideration is over and they move to vote where only 51 votes are needed to seat the SCOTUS.

What I don’t understand is if cloture automatically requires 60 votes. Or do the dems have to “invoke” filibuster first?

So... Do they vote one hour after convening on Thursday. Don’t want to miss that vote!

You need 60 votes to break a filibuster but only 51 to confirm a nominee to the Supreme Court.

It's more simple than that.

There have been radio ads and PR campaigns supporting Gorsuch's nomination -- financed by major business and industry groups all over the U.S. I don't think I've ever seen this kind of push for a Supreme Court nominee before.

These groups are the heart and soul of the Republican Party's support.

I think Collins has said she won’t vote for the rule change to eliminate the 60 requirement. I think it will be Rule 19, or maybe it should be Catch 19, limit debate to 2 hours per member and then go ahead and vote.

I know how the filibuster works. How do they initiate a filibuster? Is it now automatic for cloture or does a senator have to actually have to “ filibuster”? Originally the filibuster was people talking endlessly so no cloture vote could happen. They changed the rules so that lazy senators didn’t have to talk endlessly. I want to know how a filibuster is actually initiated. Is it now automatic for cloture votes or does someone call for filibuster. What triggers the need for 60 votes?
